Pretty much same as the previous two boxes. High count of 39P from all three boxes as well as a ton of semi key San Francisco minted coins. And part two of this box will be the same with high count of BU coins.

Just noticed something strange going on Jefferson lips on that second 39P. Lip injections LOL!

Well we definitely started off strong. A very nice "S" minted Buffalo. A couple of nice die clash obverse errors.

The two die clash errors only show detail to the die clash on the obverse. Both examples have a nice straight line going thru his skull back to front.

Read Kevins comment and decided to post tomorrow box today. Can't believe we hit the half way point. Its been a heck of a ride over the past year. Covid slowed us down but I ain't stopping till 500 are completed!

Didn't take us long to find that beautiful double horn Bison error. I love this example I found because at the end of that horn it even curves at the end like the buffalos right horn!

Very rarely do I keep toned coins unless it has some deep awesome colors. This redish purple one I couldn't throw back.

To add to the stats -
    • Consecutive years/mms - 1935 to Present (85 years...but the 2021's are not far off)
    • Most common Buffalo - 1936 (13 so far)
    • Least common Buffalo - 1927 D (only 1)
    • Other notable Buffalo - 1916 D, 1920 D, 1935 S
    • Most common V Nickel - 1911 (2 so far)
    • Least common V Nickel - 1909 (only 1)
    • Other notable V Nickels - 1904-1912 with only the 1910 missing (30M+ so only a matter of time)
Many dateless Buffalo, 36, and 2 appear to by Type 1 1913 (MM not known) and at least 4 appear to be from the 1920's. The one above might be a 1921 based on a couple ribbon diagnostics.

That's a lot of nice finds. I've never seen a buffalo nickel in the wild before, and I am looking for one as of now. But I did find a nickel I believe may have improper annealing... Tell me what you think.

I see people liking my post, but I was asking IF it's improper annealing. So if you know, just say yes or no.;)

Possibly. It's difficult to say from a photo but relative to the earlier post by Datdarenickelguy...it looks similar. I can identify a 1959 Black Beauty since it is a homogenous look, but the more recent annealing issue looks blotchy in contrast. You have the blotchy look, but the reverse is more convincing than the obverse. That said, the specimens we looked at earlier weren't convincing to me...so who is to say. You have the specimen in hand. You would need to see if two other possibilities exist. Is it stained or is something environmental going on. Soaking in acetone might lift a stain or a soak in distilled water. Environmental is a another story though.

Please keep in mind I try to get to everyone but work comes first.

Are the sides of the coin toned as well?

Yes, the sides are colored as well. And I understand about work, put that ahead of me any time. But yeah, Like Kevin said, I'll try soaking it in water. I have no acetone though.

    Thanks for replying.

This is a good one to explore especially in light of the find earlier in the thread. May take some experimentation, but it would be nice to know for sure either way.

Elsewhere here on CT they said a improperly annealed coin will have regular looking edges since the annealing would just affect the top and bottom of the coin planchet, not the inside which the edges would be. If the edges are discolored it is probably PMD, toning or environmental damage. Take it for what it is worth.

No problem buddy. I was asking about the sides of the coin because if the sides are "colored" as well this is a strong case for it not being improperly annealed. But remember what I have always preached.

"If your not sure about a coin JUST KEEP IT! It is only going to cost you 5 cents to put it to the side".

Alright, thanks. It looks like it's not improper annealing then. But I will set it aside. I have a bag full of coins I don't know if they're errors or not.
