The beauty of a Jefferson nickel set is that you can find every date with some looking. It will be interesting to see the grade of the best coins of each date and mint mark at the end.

Where are you getting your boxes? I’ve gotten a few from my local bank recently and I seem to have zero luck on finding anything other than common 40s and 50s. You’re finding something good in every box!!!

What are you looking for? DDNG's finds are pretty typical from where I sit so I'm thinking that you should be having similar luck as well. Generally speaking, the only significant difference I see from other CRH enthusiasts are mixes of mint marks. For instance, the 2009 mm counts are flipped for me here in the Northeast. Even D and S mint Jefferson Nickels are reasonably available here where Philly is predominant.

What I have seen is that the Silver and Buffalo counts are down from where I was 3-6 years ago. It stands to reason that these will grow scarcer as time passes. V nickel counts are also down. Another thing to consider is if you are located in an aging population. Coin collections sometimes get dumped enriching the field and improving the odds of finding something special.

It is hit or miss. Kevin pretty much hit it right on the nose. Location plays a factor on mint marks as well as finds.

I have a friend in Florida that hunts 10 boxes in nickels every week and his finds blow mind away (he lives in a city with a high population of elderly people) but dont give up I'm sure you will get a good box :)

@DatDareNickelGuy I always kind of wonder...what would it be like to have an account in a retirement community.

I’ve been through about 10 total boxes worth over the last 6 months. Only good find was a 1938D. I just got back into collecting at the start of 2019 after a long time away from it. I realized I needed 2009 coins, and through these ten boxes I’ve yet to see one!

Yeah I have noticed in some areas they are hard to find. For some reason I find a lot of them here in SA. I would assume back in 2009 a large shipment was dumped here. Either way I already have thousands of them and will always hold onto every single one!
