Dang. Why can't I find something like that in a 50 cent coin bucket? Heck, why can't I even find a 50 cent coin bucket?!

    Great coin!

NGC says 200,000 minted. 90% silver, $45 in VF.

    $9.50 just for the silver.

    That's my kind of deal.

    Excellent find !!

Did the person/shop who/which put together the 50c bucket make a mistake or purposely "seed" the bucket???

Sharp dealer. Imagine what he could make with a little education.

I spend hours upon hours looking through those bins. At FUN (and many other shows) almost every dealer have them, especially in the budget section.

Any idea why someone would do that?

    A. Incompetence/lack of knowledge

    B. Encourage new collectors

Bradley answered that question already, but maybe also to "Keep 'em Comin' Back".

Maybe it was done just for fun, just to see the look of discovery on someone's face, or the look of someone hiding their find.

I can only offer conjecture, not fact.

Or it could be the case of a lazy dealer, who bought a collection, along with a lot of loose coins, and didn't care to devote the time to go through them......so he added them to his junk bins. It's like cherry picking. Some dealer didn't do his homework and you, the discoverer, reap the benefit.

A dealer who specializes in US coins, will just put all the foreigns for sale rather than go through them all 1 by 1. Because in their "experience" the foreigns are junk and it's just a waste of time. They may have buckets of foreigns and they just can't bother with them.

I think I'm going to "discover" the LCDs in my area and start paying them visits.
I've read a lot about junk bin discoveries. Maybe I'll get lucky also.

My LCD closed a while back. There are others in the area, but I liked him and his store and prices. I bought and sold with him. Anyway, I pulled a couple of decent foreign junk bin coins from him. One I didn't even know was valuable, I just liked it. (An old 19th century rare pfennig.) Worth around $30 and I paid .50 cents.
The other a silver Philippines 10 centavo for .75 cents.
