I search nickels often and I've found V or Liberty nickels, Buffalo and war nickels so your finds were good but not uncommon. I'm missing a 39D and 50D having a complete set found in circulation. If I were more diligent I'm sure I'd have them by now. I have a roll of BU's from the 50's and 60's also. I'm still looking for a Henning, and die clash examples as I've found neither.
I'd love to someday take the finds of the users and tally them altogether... The 39-D does seem to show up every so often based on what I've read here and in other forums... the 50-D though is another story. I'm guestimating the 50-D is about 3-4 times as hard to find as the 39-D based on what I've seen... If anyone else has any data, please let me know...
Last year I found a 50d and 15s in a box of looms rolls. So they are out there. I'm under the belief of volume. The more you search the more you find. I lack the 39d for a complete circulation set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Those are awesome finds, Mike! Congrats! I'm in total agreement with you that it's volume that brings you the best chance... I've searched around 125,000 nickels in 7+ months. Of course, when you also happen to hit a good batch from a source, go back and get as many of those kind of rolls and/or boxes as possible. This has worked extremely well for me, especially in my nickel CRH as the two coins in my avatar (38-S and 39-D) would attest. As for my circulation set, I only lack the 50-D and 43-D.
