Yeah, I know they are considered "fantasy" coins but the wear, apparent age, and similarities all make me feel otherwise. Regardless, they are generaly fairly cheap and always get smiles when shown off even to Non-coin lovers. Anyhoo... here are the new ones bringing my total to 15 (17 counting the 2 doubles I have) so far Sorry reverse pic so bad, blew my full spectrum bulb (again)
Cool tokens. I see plenty of adverts and flyers living in Asia, but I've never seen a token before. Where'd you pick them up?
Well the 1st couple came from my grandfather, then added a few I saw at coin shows over the years. Got a couple more from my brother (also from Gramps) and this last batch of 5 came off of e-bay. Seeing "LOTS" of them on the bay recently.
At first I could not figure out what the title of the thread meant since I did not ever recall seeing a coin with a cat on it. Why didn't you just say Whore House? I mean, it cannot be anymore offensive to young eyes then "Best Screw in Town" ir "A Sure Screw"? I think I'm gonna get in trouble for this............
a couple of months ago there was a coin seller who offered a similar coin to the coins that the op posted. i got a laugh from the way the seller desribed the coin in the listing. whore house tokens sounds about right.
I have casino tokens from every casino I have gambled in. I would love to hear your Grandfather explaining these to your Grandmother. :>) Enough said.
There was a time, a very innocent time, when such things would never be mentioned outright, but rather, eluded to. I think this is one of those times. 'Specially on a 'family forum'.........
I'll take knowledge over innocence most days. The role of prostitution and it's proliferation and in some cases introduction (Korea did not have prostitution until comfort women were introduced during Japanese occupation) is important to study and understand. If numismatics can be a vehicle to reach a broader understanding of our cultural background and identity, I'm all for it. Sent from my SHV-E300K using Tapatalk 4
i have seen a few braided cents with x-rated reverses. the letter E in the word CENT had been altered to spell another word, that i can't mention here on cointalk.
i don't think there ever was any (very innocent time). people have been people ever since there were people. not speaking about such things does not change the way that the world is.
I saw an ancient brothel while in Pompeii and there were paintings of sex acts on the walls that served as a menu for the establishment. I agree, innocence never existed, but nostalgia is pretty forgiving, albeit forgetful, too. Sent from my SHV-E300K using Tapatalk 4
When I mentioned innocent I should also have mentioned that at one time societies would shield some it's gentler members from the realities of that present day society. Alas today, we make no such attempt.........
the thing that i find offensive is when society tries to claim false innocence. for example, most people are not even close to innocent, but some of those same people will claim to be offened by something trival such as swearing. i figure it this way, i am the most innocent adult that i have heard of, and even i have never been offended by hearing about the realities of society, so if i am not offened by hearing about those things, then why should anybody else be?
