Germany 1966 "G" 5 mark proof. a gorgeous coin. my personal favorite. it's a common date. still takes my breath away
In 1936 the Federal Republic of Germany did not exist yet. By the way, for some reason a few of your attached images do not display. Most others "get" here fine though ... Christian
Christian you are right of course. opps my bad....I had 5 mark on the brain. hope gbroke will let it go. not sure why my other pics are not coming up ? pic size being to large ?
gbroke what are the other 2 dates you are looking for for your Germany 5 mark eagles ??? 1951 1958 "J" and what other 2 ????
Beautiful 5 marks yoda! I cant see the last couple you posted either though. The proof is killer! Ill have to re-visit my 5 marks to see exactly what I'm missing. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
thanks gbroke. i can remember the first time I saw a germany 5 mark eagle. I feel in love at first sight. i knew I had to get a proof version of it too. the proof lists for $50.00 and i think the mintage is 3,070 ? I will not do the whole date run. I am impressed with your grades of your eagles are so sweet. I am always on the look out for great graded eagles and proofs for the right price. i fixed the pics on the 1968 D and the 1971 D. the pics did not turn out very good. sorry.
That mintage figure apparently refers to the 1966 G proof set; the price of that entire set would be about €500 according to the catalog I have. By the way, the Federal Republic's proof sets were, until 1970, in plastic foils containing plasticizers - PVC, I suppose ... Christian
I agree Yoda, very nice! :thumb: Yours are looking pretty nice too Gbroke! It's hard for me to find good examples of these without scratches. The thrill is in the hunt.
You got that right Chris! Up to and including 1970. Here were some pictures I took when I first got some proof sets. The PVC damage was prolific. I gave them baths and did the best I could to remove it. As you can see, there is still some residue and small areas of pvc damage on some 5 marks: Veyr noticeable on this poor guy: It was a huge problem for all the proof sets I received. I also received a book of the 5 mark commems in a beautiful German coin book. Unfortunately, it was also full of PVC and I had to do some damage control on most of those as well. I should take some pictures of a couple of beautiful coin albums from germany. I could probably change out the pages for modern plastic ones. I don't know if they are worth anything, but they look nicer than any I can find today.
Recently, a fellow CT member stationed in Germany (01Mikep) sent me a monthly German coin magazine that included a complete price guide and mintage figures. If you are interested I will scan the 5 marks section and share it with you. I suspect it is much more accurate than Krause in regards to value.
I double checked and all I need are 1958, 1963 and 64. Of course, after that, I would like to upgrade a few to uncirculated where possible.
I would like you to share those price guide and mintage figures with us. curious about the differances. thanks
Hehehe... I remember buying those 5 Mark coins for $2.00 US and them trading them for liters of very good beer...
Nearing the finish line on my year set. Just picked up this 1861 F. Fairly low mintage. If I recall, it's under 1 mil. I don't have my book handy at the moment.
