Hello everyone. A friend of mine has a low serial $5 note and it appears to be in excellent condition. He asked me about the value and I said I’d ask my coin talk brethren because I’m a coin guy. I said I’m sure they could give me some good info. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
My advice: 1. Compare your note with sold examples courtesy of Heritage Auctions and other well established dealers/auction houses. 2. Tell your friend to send it to PMG or PCGS for grading. 3. Put it in a acetate currency sleeve.
Looks like it had a large crease that will lower the value but the number is low enough to draw interest.
The first bullet point on that explanation is incorrect. 00000002 is not the factorial of 3. The factorial of 3 is 6. However, 00000002 is the factorial of 2. PS - @yakpoo I know you didn't compose that list
Very nice low serial number note. Tell your buddy it is a great find, get it into a quality sleeve, and have it graded.
@Bambam8778, I think you just showed the lowest serial number ever on CoinTalk! Regardless, that's a beaut!
I saw that, too. 3! (factorial) would be 3x2x1=6 (as you correctly point out). The OP's serial number is so small, that it found a bug in the site's software...posted by @1stSgt22
To answer that question: A lot to the correct buyer. That is definitely a unique serial number and worth several times over it's face value.
I’m pretty certain that serial #2 notes are harder to find than serial #1 notes. Personally, I would send it for grading. Here’s an example that sold for over $1,200 in 2005.
