$5.00 Indian Head gold coin value ??? 1908

Just got this out of a storage unit along with a bunch of other coins,
From what I have been told is that the storage has been there over 20 years

If the coin is genuine, it will command a small premium over melt value, but the surfaces of that coin lead me to believe that it may be a cast counterfeit.

The photos are blurry and make my eyes hurt.

 

Take pictures of the coin outside of the flip.

 

I have the same concerns. It looks like there are a lot of small pores/pits on the surface. This is a strong indication of a cast fake.

 

Something doesn't look right , weight ?

Looks very worn for the incuse design. Pit holes/marks, maybe it was tested with a chemical to see if it was real gold. It does have a casting look about it.

 

That's a fake, sorry. 100% positive.

yeah, it looks to be a cast counterfeit.

Sounds like he bought a sight unseen storage unit, and it was in there, so no real loss.

 

If you’re going to counterfeit a 1908, why not an S?

 

Might arise more suspicion?
