I just hit this goal a few minutes ago so here is a Half Cent I purchased last month to help celebrate this occasion. Many thanks to @lordmarcovan for that last like. It’s in 1800 Half Cent, probably in low Fine condition. A nice pleasing chocolate brown and problem free coin. She will be going into my Type set very soon.
Sorry, but I would not submit that coin for a third party grade. The reverse has some long, significant scratches.
Looks like it worked for a living. My kind of coin. Congratulations on 43,000. 43 is one of my favorite numbers.
Wonder what strories she has been present at over the years. She does look like she worked hard for a living, and will now retire with dignity.
She looks great in my Dansco but if I find a nicer one I’ll get that one as an upgrade. This is the lowest grade in my Type set.
The interesting fact about the 1800 half cent is that the obverse was a new design, the Draped Bust, but the reverse was in the style of the 1790s. That old reverse was used for a brief while to make the 1802 half cents (a rare, expensive coin), and was replaced to make the remaining 1802 half cents, which are also scarce.
Here are some pictures. 1797 half cent This is the "1 over 1" blundered die variety. As 18th century half cents go, this variety is fairly common, but most of them were struck on broken dies and are not as sharp this one. 1800 half cent with old style reverse 1802 over 0 (They all are.) with the new style reverse. This one came from the Garrett Collection.
