They're not. Not yet, anyway. Regular service used to take about 3 calendar weeks. As of last week, economy was at 47 business days and regular was at like 26. Express at 7. They've been behind all summer. NGC economy orders are done in 3 weeks or so! I just sent 6 coins to NGC for economy. They were $20 each and they'll be done in half the time a $32/each PCGS regular service order would be done.
Probably should have sent that proof 2 cent to NGC where it may have come back 66 RB, or a star grade. Be "worth $1k more...
The Capped Bust looks a bit better than 45, but I'm guessing the rim wear and slightly damaged 9 and 0 is what held it back.
I thought the half was at least AU50, but I can see where they would give it 45. I always grade mine harder than I do others but that one is a beauty. The 2C is premium 66+ would never be questioned in my opinion.
The "9" is not damaged, it is an Overton variety - 29/27. IMO, AU would have been a better grade to indicate the coin's retail value.
Great trio! I would have thought AU on that bust 1/2 as well. It looks like minimal rub on a typical flat strike.
45 is the right grade for this coin, I think. Remember that the obverse is usually the dominant grade. The reverse grades AU, but the obverse is 45. Look at the wear in the curls of her hair and on her breasts - these show more wear than I would expect to see on a 50. This coin has also probably been docked a tiny amount for an old cleaning. This silent "net grading" is incredibly common - the coin is very attractive, but usually when they show white centers like this, they've been treated. Still a very nice coin, and the overdate is always cool!
