Hi everyone. I wanted to share these 3 1994 Lincoln Cents I found during my early years of error coin collecting. These 3 die cracks also known as a "BIE" ...I wanted to know if these would be considered errors? According to NGC they are not recognized as such. This is what NGC states on their website quote - "Now considered common and of only minor interest to the better educated collectors of today, BIE cents are still submitted to NGC for attribution. As they add little or no value to the coin, they are not recognized by the company" I also added a picture of a 1955 NGC graded cent not recognized as an error or BIE. I added the sticker to ID it in my collection. Thanks for looking!
The now defunct BIE Guild called them errors. They are not die cracks but die breaks. Who cares what NGC thinks; collect what you like. BIEs have always been looked down upon, but that just means less competition collecting them.
Oh yes! I meant to say die break...that's the correct term. I have more raw BIE's from the 50's through the 90's. Great stuff.
I am proud to say I am an avid BIE collector and have been since the 1960's. I collect using Jean Cohen's excellent book: "The Classification and Value of Errors on the Lincoln Cent" published in 1969 with 6,011 illustrations. The earliest documented BIE is 1942P (I have one) and the latest BIE is 2013 and I have that one too. I never get tired of hunting Lincolns at shows and at coin shops. Ebay has helped in getting many scarce BIEs. I am very anxious to find the following BIE's: 1944D, 1945D, 1950P BU, 1950D BU, 1951P, 1953P, 1953D, 1954D, 1959P, 1959D, 1960P LD, 1961D. I have several "modern" BIE's which include 1983, 1983IIB, 1983EIR, 1987IIB, 1991RITIY, 1994IIBIE, 1994EIR, 1995BIE,1998BIE, 1999IIB, 2007BIE, 2009BIE, and 2013BIE. I would love to share information and ideas with other collectors. Please email at coulsonmdavid@hotmail.com
I have sent an email to John Wexler about a BIE book. I'll let you know what happens. Longnine009 please email me at coulsonmdavid@hotmail.com to discuss BIE's further. I have a feeling we have a lot to talk about. Thank you.
John Wexler told me today that he gave up the idea of a BIE book because he was too busy with doubled dies and RPM's. Email me please.
The die chip is between the B & E of LIBERTY, therefore, it looks like LIBIERTY. They're called "BIE's" for short - easier than saying "die chip between the B & E of Liberty"
Wow paddy you been on this site awile along with others, anyway i found my first full bie and seen your thread checking into it..cud coins are one of my favorite finds for some reason.
