Hey guys ! It's been way too long since we've had a fabulous episode of America's favorite home fun game "Attribute THIS !" A special spin this time - rather than simply throw down a coin and ask for attribution, this time I have TWO coins. I'll post a composite pic of both obverses so that we can compare 'em, and another composite for the reverses. These are draped bust dollars. Like many early US coins, it's easier to start on the reverse. Here are some pick-up points : OBVERSE :

Location of stars relative to each other
Location of stars relative to portrait
Location of stars relative to legend LIBERTY
numerals in the date - size of each, and location and orientation relative to each other and the portrait
letters in the legend - size of each, and location and orientation relative to each other and the portrait. In particular, look for rotation, which will make the feet higher or lower to the adjacent letter
repunched or recut letters or numerals
defects in the letters or numerals - missing feet or serifs
die state issues - die cracks, warps, or chips
REVERSE :

Location of stars relative to each other
Location of stars relative to eagle's beak
Location of stars relative to legend LIBERTY
repunched or recut letters
letters in the legend - size of each, and location and orientation relative to each other and the portrait. In particular, look for rotation, which will make the feet higher or lower to the adjacent letter. Also, look for the first "A" in AMERICA and its relation to the eagle's wing
Clouds between stars position relative to stars and letter
defects in the letters - missing feet or serifs
Number and location of berries on the olive branch, and the nature of the stems
the letter "I" in AMERICA and it's relationship to the closest leaf in the olive branch
die state issues - die cracks, warps, or chips
Given the nature of this post, let's talk about the die IDs (1-A, 3-B, etc) and their various marriage partners in addition to the typical attribution. Happy hunting !
