Not my coin Another Mike Byers Discovery Coin Mint Error.. Neat! CoinWeek article - https://coinweek.com/coins/error-co...ntennial-quarter-2x-struck-on-roosevelt-dime/
Looks like another example of the Mint-Assisted Errors that came out of the San Francisco Mint in the first part of the 70s. With all of the extra process steps, inspections, and slow throughput to assure proofs are high quality, you would have to wonder how that coin made it out of the mint. It certainly wasn't in a proof set. I have no issue with classifying these "Mint-Assisted" pieces as errors, put my interest in them is greatly diminished due to the nature of their manufacture. Just my opinion.
Obviously, some mint employee was having fun with this. Since these sets are put together by hand it's hard to believe it was an accident. Too bad I don't have an inside connection that could produce a one of a kind special proof set for me.
I don't even see how you can call these things "errors." I've personally watched the Mint when striking special coins, and with all the care and inspection they do there is zero possibility that a thing like this was created or got out except by someone's intent. It's a manufactured scam intended to make a particular person a bundle of money.
How come Mike Byers always ends up with mint created errors? I have seen almost every bizarre error, that could have never made it to circulation (except in a mint bag) and they always end up for sale by Mike Byers. And it's not because he is a "buyer of rare mint oddities", it seems as if he has a direct pipeline to people who are making these things, and smuggling them out of the mint. If I am wrong, mea culpa.
