Had a lunch and learn on cost estimating that ran over until about 1:15p, boo. Oh well, considering I'm selling off most of my modern stuff I'm not entirely upset. Although I wouldn't have minded snagging 1 set for my dad and myself.
Of all the times I have signed up for a "reminder" not once have I received one. Not sure if anyone else has had that issue but that feature on their website has been completely useless to me.
I get one on all products. I also do a presale order on the yearly products (Mint Set, Proof Set, Silver Proof Set, Proof (Gold & Silver) Eagles, Uncirculated(Gold & Silver) Eagles). A message is sent on the presale stating the product will be processed on this date, if I decide not to buy, I cancel the presale order.
Hmm well hopefully it works this time around. My debit card number was stolen last night so even if I wanted one I had no way to purchase it.
Well, one of our own is proudly advertising that he's listed his fifty sets on eBay, at a perfectly reasonable BIN of just under double the Mint's price -- and he's sold 43 of them. I'm not the one with a hard-nosed objection to flipping, but the guy who does grouse about it has me second-guessing the level to which I'd be willing to take it...
One thing we'll have to see is this: Just over 250,000 (give or take) 2016 Mint Sets were sold last year. Proof Set numbers are about the same. (Forgive me if the numbers are off a bit, I'm at work and can't look it up right now.) The point is that they made about enough of these sets so that the people who collect them could each have one.) If there aren't that many collectors of these sets, and the flippers came in and scooped up all of the product, will they end up eating a bunch of them before all is said and done? I hate to say it this way, but I hope so. The greed of the few has ruined the enjoyment of many actual collectors. Only time will tell.
Eating probably not, but due to the mintage I do think it would be wise for most to just sell them as fast as they can for what they can and let the big big big boys worry about the grading route.
I am willing to bet that on the Coin Vault tonight they will have Presale sets, SP-70 for $249.00 and SP-69 for $139.00. I might be high, but maybe not. OGP sets will be $99.00
Probably won't have to much danger of that since this set was cheap by mint standards to begin with. A good percentage is going to get broken up as well and I fully expect a large percentage to end up on TV.
No interest, no spaces available in my Dansco's and not going to buy an extra page for each to display. Also, at twice the issue price on the secondary market, also no interest. When the ATB series is finished, so am I with the U.S. Mint. Busy doing upgrades and space filling on all of my classic U.S. series.
People still have to want one, and I don't know if the demand will be there at the end of the day. My hope is that the buyers that bought large quantities (thousands of sets) solely for the purposes of flipping end up eating their lunch.
Proof set sales were actually much higher for 2016. 2016 clad proof sets sold over 590k 2016 silver proof sets sold over 360k 2016 was also a new low for proof set mintages. Past sales went much much higher. This enhanced set is more like a proof set than the annual uncirculated set with its non-business strike finish, compatible price point, and presentation.
Huh? I signed up for the "reminder" which arrived well after the product had already sold out so I guess I don;t understand what you are saying??
THAT, sounds like a "subscription email" which is NOT a reminder as much as it is a "notification". It is all very clear to me now that you added specific information. The "Remind Me" tabs on "non-subscription" products usually gets sent out the day the product gets released and in this case, well after the product has already sold out.
My reminder came on July 28th. I opened it today around noon. Clicked on it. It took me to the mint web site. I signed into my account and ordered the sets as soon as the clock hit 12:00. The order came up, I hit submit, it asked if the credit card on file was to be used. I hit confirm. Done.
For things I really care about, I put my own reminder in my phone with notifications the evening before and the morning of.
