Hi everyone, I need your well-respected insight and opinion on this 22. I may bid on this as this is currently on Ebay and the seller is trusted and I have purchased from before.

Is it your opinion that this would be an Ex Fine designation and a true strong reverse? If you believe so, what would the majority of you pay for it ? I am noting that I do need this coin for my ongoing collection of Lincolns. Of course, PCGs may see this coin differently and grade lower?

    I would appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks, Marc

Have the seller send it to PCGS. If it comes kosher then make a deal.
Do not buy any coin like this with out the TPG plastic first.

The coin looks okay on the surface, but I would never buy a raw coin like this on the Internet. As a dealer, I would never have sold a coin like this raw.

The photo might have white balance issues, but the color does not look entirely right. This piece may have been cleaned and re-colored.

Sure appears to have been cleaned, IMO.

That second 2 looks a bit too sharp compared to other numbers and letters. I'd wait for a TPG before buying.

The fields of this coin are too mark free considering the wear factor of the coin. I would stay clear.

The date looks funny. The 9 is much larger than the other numbers. Just looks funny. Actually, the first three look different.

Lincoln’s cheek appears to have been sand blasted.

Yes, this coin should have already been encapsulated, makes you wonder why it isn’t and where it came from...definitely needs TPG cert before you buy. A generous grade of F12 at NGC= $850...Spark

I think the date has been altered.

At first, I thought so too. But I compared it to that listed at NGC and it looks okay. No opinion about cleaning or re-coloring...I just don’t know from these pics...Spark

I agree. After checking numerous references, the last "2" is smaller than it should be.

Not only that, look where it is. It's just slightly too far to the right. The spacing between it and the first 2 is wider than the spacing between the other numbers. And the top of the second 2 is totally different than the top of the first one. An altered 1923 or 1928 perhaps.

The date stands out as being fake to me. The 19 is larger than the 22 and the two twos look a little different. I wouldn't butva coin like this unless slabbed.

If graded by the reverse, it's XF. As a firm believer in certification, I would definitely not buy a key/expensive coin that hadn't been certified.
If you look at the picture of a no D from the second die pair in Cherrypickers' Guide, you can see that the spacing of the two 2s is wide, just like the ops coin. I think the coin's genuine, but I would buy it w/o certification.

That is, I wouldn't buy it w/o certification. Sorry for the typo.

Again, look at Cherrypickers' Guide 6th edition, vol. 1, p. 103. The 19 looks larger (fatter) than the 2s.
