I'm not sure. Last time something like that happened was in 2019 when cents were going for as much as $125 a box!
The only thing I can think of is that they are brand new, and not been searched. New coins habitually show up immediately near the mints (except San Francisco proofs) and large cities because of proximity in the one case and priority shipments early to the cities. Here we are nearly 5 full months into a production year, and here in Central Arkansas I have yet to see any 2024 coins from change. I’m still getting 2023 brand new nickels as change. But Sleaze-Bay jokers get them however and jack the price up and sell to those who are at the tail-end of the trickle-down effect…imo…Spark
I don't know. I'm gonna guess it's because they haven't made any in a couple months and some people got the idea there will be no more this year. i doubt they are right.
I just checked and it was in mid to late 2020 when uncirculated cent boxes of that year (2020) were selling for $60-$125 each.
Question is, are they selling for that or being listed for it? I just don't see takers, then again....a fool...
