where's the clash?

 

On the reverse. By the chin and nose.

 

OK, I see it but not sure what it would match up with on the obverse.

The only part of the reverse that would cause a clash in that area would be from Washington’s neck.

 

Meow would call it the Washington veil variety.

 

Looks to me like it would be his nose.

 

Yes it does but then the reverse image would be rotated 180*.

 

I think thats called the "face shield" clash. not sure what its worth.

 

Meow has also seen the lump of coal on the head variety too.

OK, I'll believe it. Some member here had some snazzy software that would superimpose the reverse over the obverse to see what the clash came from, but I kind of think it would be the nose because of the coin-alignment of US coins.

I've heard it referred to as "ghost face". I've found several over the course of time. The nicest one I found also had a bunch of die chips as well.
