The prices are really high. You can buy many of the older commemorative coins for less. The mint has really turned into a "silk stocking" operation with its pricing policies.
The McAuliffe coin will probably sell ok, maybe not great. At $671 & $681 each, who's buying the gold? Three-coin set at $746?
I'll watch how the sales figures go (I only collect the Unc dollars). I kind of expect the McCuliffe dollar to have sales high enough to potentially drop eventually in the aftermarket, but the law enforcement could quite possibly stay low enough that the Mint price will be as low as it ever gets.
I agree. I'm trying to ignore new mint offerings but an uninspiring piece at a high price like the law enforcement museum coins has all the makings of a low mintage number.
The McAuliffe coin is an attractive coin, unusual for a new design from the US mint, unfortunately their prices are out of this world.
That's why I stick to the Unc coins and ignore the proofs. 3 out of the last 3 years have produced Unc silver dollars with mintages below 13,000. Last years Womans Suffrage dollar missed being the lowest mintage in the entire commem dollars series by about 350 coins 12,627 to the 2017 Boy's town at 12,313 and the 2018 Breast Cancer at 12,526.
