We have to understand that the Mint has operated with poor money management for years and then when they try to update their business like regular businesses and Mints, we cry "FOUL". We should be grateful that we can by gold, silver and other metals for reasonable rates. The one problem they are having is that most of the employees of the Mint as well as their customers are angry because the Mint is raising their prices to market value. I won't be surprised when the Mint starts replacing some employees and hiring people that know what they are doing. The employees of the Mint want to be paid at par of other businesses, but they don't won't to work like regular businesses to earn that kind of money. I worked for the State of North Carolina. We had the same problem with State Employees. They wanted to be paid like employees of non-state business and get other benefits, but when adjustments are made when they don't get an annual increase of 7-10% raise every year, they cry. Before I retired, the State started an employee evaluation with strict standards for raises. When state employees didn't get their standard raise, the cried to the legislature, which did no good. There just wasn't the money in the budget anymore. Both the Mint and the Post Office employees play this same game and when they lost 90B last year, they can't understand why they didn't get a raise.
