If I were in that business, I... well, for starters, I'd be targeting something with more concentrated value than a load of quarters.
I hope they finish the ATB series by putting out the 2021 Tuskegee quarter with W-mint too. 2019: w-mint quarters 2020: w-mint quarters with a privy mark 2021: w-mint quarter with...hmmm...colorized?
So if we make our own stamps with the same Privy emblem, and start stamping our own quarters with the privy mark in various locations, have we just created a variety or a mint error ?
An eBay seller would call it RARE, ONE OF A KIND. Others would call it a variety while new collectors would say it's a Mint error. Me, I call it damaged.
At least there will be 10 million of them to go around - no worries about $1000+ eBay prices like for those hysteria-inducing enhanced reverse proof ASEs last year - 2019w quarters are selling for $10, much less of the greedy flip motive there
The privy mark will be some variation of the 'V75' logo to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII.
The Royal Canadian Mint is the champion of privy marks on their Maple Leaf bullion coins - they strike many varieties of Maple Leaf coins each year, some with privy marks, some with alternate designs - here is their 2014 lunar horse privy (below the maple leaf) variety:
'cept the US mint is going to have at least 50+ privy marks per year .... one for each state. Then vary those too ... so expect around 300 different privy marked quarters per year. That should keep those Dansco collectors on their toes, and in the poor house. And expect a series celebrating the entire Alphabet .... one letter ... at ... a ... time ... lol
Here are a few suggestions for Mint Privy marks. I will take my commission in the form of gold bullion please
It would be nice if the mint would talk to all the cranky tellers who don't want to give you rolls of change to search in the first place!
Lazy this evening. Any photogs of the proposal? Anything Tuskegee should have a few 'Red Tails' included
