“New in 2019! Premium Coin: The 2019 proof set is accompanied by a NEW 2019 premium penny in a proof finish struck at West Point Mint with a “W” mint mark. This special coin is packaged separately in clear United States Mint plastic wrap.” https://catalog.usmint.gov/proof-set-2019-19RG.html?cgid=proof-sets#start=1 Sort of reminds me of the 1996 U.S. Mint set with the extra W dime. Thoughts? TC
Looks like that is something I will be getting. I have purchased each of my kids a clad and silver proof set, a proof ASE, and a bullion ASE for their birth years. Seeing as we have a new one coming this year.....it is a must buy
Separately in plastic wrap? Grr. On the other hand, they're making it easier for all the folks who'll buy this just to flip the otherwise-unobtainable (?) cent. Demand for clad proof sets would otherwise be flat, but there'll be a ton of demand for the first W-mintmarked cent. And if the Mint can sell a whole proof set to everyone who wants that one coin, well, hey, great for the Mint, I guess...
No indication yet as to whether this cent will also appear in the silver proof sets, this announcement covers the clad proof set only, so far.
Agreed that it seems a bit like a garbage marketing scheme to move clad proof sets. If it weren't for the fact that I get my kids the proof sets for their birth years, I would probably pass.
For some reason, I still have a subscription for Silver Proof Sets. I hope they include it in that set as well.
Wasn't there a thread a while back about the Mint announcing plans to release some limited-production coin for circulation? I wonder if they might do that with a business-strike version of this coin?
Even better a small mintage released so that everybody and there mother doesn't have one or a couple boxes.
What does one have to do in order to be able to order a set? I’ve never wanted any of the contemporary sets, but I want that darn West Point Cent.
Buy it from the mint website when it goes on sale on March 1st. I set up an email reminder so I can buy it.
