I'm having an awful time imagining what on the footprint side gets the mirrored look on a proof. It could be HISTORICALLY ugly.

Except most of the other gold coins I've bought in the secondary market at a reduced price from Mint release price.

So if I buy it from the Mint, I'll be buying it at Spot + Mint Super Premium.

Plus, I've only bought one or the other (Proof vs Uncirc). For this I want the entire set so Proof & Uncirc for the gold and other one(s), plus the Special Set.

The way I understand the press release, all four coins will be curved.

obv Apollo 11 Robbins.jpg Rev Apollo 11 Robbins.jpg Apollo 11 Robbims Card.jpg I picked up what will probably one of many Moon Landing coins/medals. My daughter is very interested in Space Travel, she went to Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. I'm sure she'll enjoy this one, it's unique, it's 1 oz. of silver covered by space travelled alloy.

Welp, looks like I'd better budget for Mint prices for a set. I don't think I can let this one go by, regardless of what it does in the aftermarket.

I really which the Mint would go back to striking silver commemorative half dollars and let it go at that. The subject is worthy but that's a lot of coins.

One silver and one gold. That would be plenty and they’d be at least somewhat unique. Something for everyone’s collecting budget.

So are they not selling a complete set of all the coins?

I suppose a Kennedy reverse proof can be justified since JFK put the US en route to the moon. But it smacks of pure marketing.

Then again, I suppose the Mint is in the marketing business.

Just think of the fun debate we can have as to what justifies a counterfeit starting January 1, 2019.

Hmm, missed this the first time.

I might actually be interested in this "enhanced reverse proof" if the "enhancement" makes it less hideous, and less reverse-proof like. But I repeat myself.

The United States Mint unveiled the designs for the 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program today. The obverse and reverse designs will be featured on the four coins in the program: a $5 gold coin, a standard size $1 silver coin, a half dollar clad coin, and a five ounce $1 silver proof coin. In a manufacturing first for the Mint, the five ounce silver proof coin will be curved, as will the other coins in the program.

They were able to slab the baseball curved coins. I think they'll figure out something for these.

So there will be TWO commemorative half dollar coins for next year? The American Legion and Moon Landing? They should mint them in silver at least! That would take an act of congress... literally.
