Excellent goals Nick. Learning Bulgarian sounds like a formidable undertaking to me. That is true dedication!
Nope, you didn't miss it, this is the first time I've posted it. I just got it in hand recently, but talked about it with Hugh, based on the photo, just after I won the lot (which is here). Hugh says the retrograde N and the draped loins mean it's one of the very first products of the London mint, i.e. early even for a LON follis, which is the first issue. Hugh also figured out that James's LON follis, the Diocletian listed on his web page and sold here, was ex Lockett. Very cool.
Thank you very much Randy. I was waxing nostalgic this morning and so I turned on the antique Zenith radio you gifted to me and listened to old time music on a local radio station. The radio still functions perfectly. The boundless generosity of CT‘ers never ceases to amaze me. ZENITH SIX TUBE MID CENTURY RADIO MODEL 6D030 (1946) Popular mid 1940s wood cabinet/chassis table top radio Edit: no it wasn’t a birthday gift which I emphatically do not want. It resulted from a PM conversation Randy and I had several years ago.
Thank you Erin. I am proud to bear the “Coolest” label you pinned on me. One of my great-grandsons thinks that is, well, Super cool! And that Galerius follis really does belong in your collection.
Congratulations on achieving your goals - and still four months for stretch goals Go maire tú an céad! (May you live to a hundred) (at least!) ATB, Aidan.
More catching up …………… I am pleased that my (Ex) coins ended up with good, appreciative, custodians - just like you Justin - thank you.
Happy (belated) birthday @jamesicus ! You're very inspiring : even though I'm much younger than you are (well not that much ), when you said you were in the process of downsizing your collection for your family having less trouble in the future, had me thinking a bit. I'm now myself cataloguing my collection in an understandable way (I mean understandable by someone else than just me) and will probably have quite a portion of it sold Q
And really excellent educational ones that offer an enormous amount of invaluable (and well illustrated) reference material at: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/
Thank you Q (I always like to write that). I have enjoyed your wonderful coins here for a long time now. It sounds that you are formulating a good plan for the eventual downsizing of your collection.
I think I am pretty well caught up with replying to members who posted commentaries that I thought required a response. If I missed anyone please excuse the omission - there were a lot of them. I do appreciate all of your great posts and the sentiments you expressed so beautifully. Following is a recent photo of my soulmate and me participating in our favorite sport. That isn’t an oxygen tube across my chest - it is the cord of my (Edit) shoulder bag that houses my twenty coin collection that goes with me everywhere. Changed via Edit: Shoulder bag with coins ……………
I am not that nice. I do try to keep the cataloging up to date but I suspect when I die my heirs will be in need of mercy from a coin dealer. Twice, so far, the person I suggested to help them in event of my death has had to change because of the retirement or demise of that person. What I am always seeking is someone at least 20 years younger than I am (therefore likely to live long enough to be of use) whose business is not so high end that they won't touch coins worth under $100 each and (the hard part so far) not likely to grow into a dealer who will not tough things under $1000 in the next few decades. A few years back, I asked a trusted person how he would prefer to get a collection if asked to sell it and was told it made no difference since he would redo all the ID's and check all the references anyway. He would more the coins into his flips and look for things I missed. In some cases, I know the dealer would find everything I knew about the coin in a few seconds so I could accept this concept but I still know successful dealers who can not ID an Alexandria mint Septimius Severus from 10 paces so I feel better giving them some hints in catalog/tag form. Hint: While it is always nice to share tastes in some things, pizza topping can be personalized. My wife does not like pepperoni. "I say, OK the more for me!"
