I love the stuff, but it makes me somewhat disagreeable (according to the wife). Scotch keeps me mellow. Especially the stuff that 'Winnie' drank.........
I promised better images, but since I'm too cheap to get a better camera, you'll have to settle for my crappy cell phone shots. I really loved this group and learned something that I didn't know before. The first in the group is this lovely NGC MS-65 RD 1960-D Small Date Lincoln cent. This won't get cracked out, but it is the only coin missing from my Lincoln Memorial cent with proofs Dansco album. When Santa checks his list, he really knows what he's doing. Next we have this beautiful 1945-S NGC MS-66 RD Wheat cent. Recently I've been assembling a nice certified set of Wheat cents, how Santa knew this and managed to get a date that I didn't have yet is mildly creepy, but Santa has his magic ways and really came through again to add a piece needed for the collection. I'll enjoy learning more about this next piece soon. Why was this minted in Denver, I assume that it had something to do with the war, but I don't know much more than that. The little that I have read about this series seems really interesting. Along with my many gifts came this lovely 1944-S Mercury dime which is going to find a permanent home in my Dansco album. Either the real Santa sent these gifts to me, or I have the most accomplished stalker of all time as my Santa. Either way, I'm not sure how he knew that I was starting an all numismatist country dancing group. I will certainly enjoy framing in this bad boy while bootscootin'... I mean who doesn't need Wheat cent salt and pepper shakers? I've seen these given a few times and always wanted a set, thanks Santa! And last but certainly not least, this lovely hand-made pottery cup which really came in handy last night while i was dying. This, along with the well wishes received from CT members has pretty much cured me. I have family in Asheville and in Chapel Hill, so it was nice to get a regional piece. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous gifts Santa, I can't tell you how much I appreciate everything. Happy New Year all, I hope this year is the best one yet.
ok, y'all... I have 7 people that haven't posted pictures of their gifts. If you haven't posted your pics, please do so now. If you haven't received a gift, please PM me
I think some of these folks might need to be PM'd sometimes the thread doesn't get updated and tell them they have an alert. It should be in watched threads.
I learned (actually, it was explained to me by another CT member), that if you do not get an email notifying you of a new posting on the thread, it is because you did not click on an email notice before. If you fail to click on the email link and view the updated thread, then the program thinks you no longer care about it and I think it "unwatches" it for you. So the PM is a good idea. Maybe explain what I said in here also.
Sorry for the looooooong delay. The last week and a half has felt like a blur. It finally ended with New Years Eve while I was driving Uber and Lyft, I put in a 13 hour day/night. It was well worth it. Now I can get back to the fun stuff. Without further delay, my Secret Santa gift. I must admit, this was the 1st gift I opened on Christmas morning, I couldn't bear the excitement as I knew it would be my only coin related gift. As I tore into the nicely wrapped package, (which shamefully, I forgot to photograph ) I came across this.... I knew right away it was Canadian, the French writing below To and From was a dead giveaway... With my interest peaked, I opened the box up to find a beautiful red felt box with a silver foil border. And in that rested a black leather pouch with a snap clasp and a Royal Canadian Seal. Inside the black pouch I came across a certificate that explained that the set of coins within was from 1973. Which happens to mark the 100th anniversary of the Province of Prince Edward Island into the Canadian Federation as well as the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I always enjoy a history lesson. The certificate appears pink because of the red felt lining inside the black pouch. And finally laying under the certificate and nestled in a red velvet holder was a set of 7 coins. The set consists of (2) Dollar coins, a 50 Cent coin, 25 Cent coin, 10 Cent coin, a 5 Cent coin and a 1 Cent coin. The larger Dollar coin which is a Silver Dollar along with the 25 cent coin commemorate the RCMP centennial and the Nickel Dollar coin commemorates the centennial of the Province of Prince Edward Island. The rest of the coins bear the same design elements as the circulating coinage. They all look like Proof coins, but are not considered proof. Overall this is a lovely set. Thank you very much Secret Santa, I will keep this with my collection alongside the last two years of Secret Santa gifts I have received here on CT.
Hi fellow CT'er's, I wasn't able to join the fun this year as was pretty out of it (medically) prior to the sign up (the first year I missed since I signed up, damn.....& in 2016 I was in surgery and still managed to participate & get my Secret Santa presents into the post on time, lol). That said I really still enjoyed seeing everyone's generosity and appreciation of the gifts they received. I hope each of you & your families had a truly wonderfuly Christmas & all the best this New Year can bring to you! All the best from North of the US border, JJ
Did 7 people not post pictures because they forgot? Or because they didn’t receive a gift? Are they waiting for orthodox Christmas? Please help me with this. I want to be sure nobody got stiffed. You 7 know who you are.
Finally was able to get a few free moments to post my SS gifts. First off thank you to my Cointalk SS's. You went above and beyond and made my Christmas. My first santa sent a wonderful agrangment with a neat card to help ID the coins. The plastic coin detector was really cool. My next Santa sent some pretty neat coins and i must say i feel in love with the Civil war token. I really need to collect more of these. (Please excuse the terrible pictures. I used a iphone with terrible light and am a newb at photo editing)
Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't had a chance to upload any images of my Secret Santa present. I received a beautiful 1959 graded Canadian Dime. Believe it or not, this is actually the first graded coin in my collection. I've just always been more of a 'raw' guy! So cool! 1959 Candian Dime reverse by BostonCoins posted Jan 10, 2019 at 8:29 AM 1959 Candian Dime Obverse by BostonCoins posted Jan 10, 2019 at 8:29 AM
