If you wish to call it "art", go right ahead. A "hobo" it is not.

Oh my god, someone carved a crappy circle on the cent and then used it to buy a pack of cigs. Seriously, does everything need to be unique and worth millions because it’s “art”.

No one made a claim of its worth. Perhaps you should read the thread. I don’t know where the apparent animosity is coming from but I’m not going down that path. Have a great day and enjoy your life.

Everyone is telling you it’s PMD and you are all like - we’ll see, it’s art, someone took great pains to place it back in circulation (like its some major feat to spend a cent). Honestly, it’s damaged, move on. Didn’t need it’s own thread in the first place.

What, are you the thread police? You are welcomed to not comment if you are so disturbed or if it alters your life so much that someone’s opinion is different than yours. I understand that you have an opinion but not your clearly rude commentary. If this bully method is how you express yourself, I really wish that you dissuade from communicating. I was looking for opinions from those who had more knowledge an experience than I. Clearly I was looking for wisdom. Forgive me, but I don’t think that you qualify.

There's no animosity, sir; at least from me. My intended point earlier had less to do with you specifically than it was a general observation about the cheapening of once-meaningful terms. My apologies if it was misinterpreted.

numismatic people have a very definitive definition of "hobo" art, which is usually some very complex engraving on coins.

word definition from PCGS of hobo nickels ==> https://www.pcgs.com/news/More-Than-A-Nickels-Worth-A-History-Of-Hobo-Nickels

quote excerpt "They are born of free thinking, free-spirited human beings rather than minted in uniform multitudes by a passionless machine. In every infinitesimal scratch, every imperceptible nuance, every metallic wisp of hair or gleaming thread of a hobo's cap, is a tiny piece of an individual's character and personal creativity, sealed into the hobo nickel forever."

I am new to this. I found something interesting. I posted it. I don’t know the terminology so my, perhaps inartful, reference to a term was not intended to lessen the term’s significance. Everyone has to learn some time and some how. This seemed to be the type of activity that was worth picking up and learning

All is well, Jose. We're not going to agree on everything and is a good thing imo. Every single one of us can learn something from everyone else, so please take no offense to anyone, myself included. Welcome to the forum.
