I thought state quarters with the s mint mark were proof. I know that's what I get for thinking. There are clad and proof correct? Are these worth more than the other mint marks? I found these back-to-back from the laundromat coin machine...ty IMG_20221130_095434504.jpg IMG_20221130_095423238.jpg IMG_20221130_095223742.jpg IMG_20221130_095302638.jpg

The US Mint started in 2012 making S Mint Quarters for circulation.

The mint made circulation strike quarters with an S mint mark starting in 2012, but they were NIFC (not intended for circulation). These were sold in bags and rolls, but they had to be bought from the mint. You wouldn't be able to find them in pocket change, unless someone broke open a bag or roll and spent them for face value.

Thanks for the expansion of my thought. Yes, if you wanted them, you had to get them from dealers or buy a large quantity from the mint.

I believe they made business strikes (NIFC) and proofs and silver proofs.
The proofs are usually identifiable even when impaired. More luster,
better strike and details, mirrored surfaces. The silver proof would be a score.
Even the regular S that you have are low mintage and have value.
