Circulation find - this is going to be the first known DDR for George Rogers Clark. I have found two, and the high points align perfectly. Y'all be on the lookout! I will not be sending this one in for attribution.

How do you figure that it is a doubled die?

I think just seeing the 2 or 3 little dimples. They don't match the layout of any of the dot patterns around it. Its a plain old coin- at least imo

It's a class 8/9 that is common at the coin's center for the single-squeeze era. The high points match up perfectly, and it's very similar to verified ATB doubled dies. Also, I have two from different die stages: one has die scrapes below the ear, and the other has the same die scrapes along with a die chip on the bust roughly above the second R of QUARTER.

If you think you have something then why aren't you sending it in?

Using a loupe, there are around seven raised areas, and they do correspond to the design. This quarter is not in perfect shape, so maybe you can check the design on a high grade at PCGS CoinFacts.

I don't like spending $12 for an attribution. I have many variety discoveries here now that aren't listed, but it would cost too much to send them all. I know several other people with this problem, and even some attributers are known to avoid uploading some of their discoveries.

Then it's not official and can be argued that it is not the first official discovery.

Congratulations! I know of no other person more skilled in finding and identifying this class of doubling!

I somewhat agree, but at least I've made it known now for others to look for. Someone may send it in eventually. If I ever get a nice stereo microscope, I may make my own website and upload discoveries, similar to what Tanner Scott (CR Die Varieties) has done.

I think what you have is a die chip that is progressing in stages.

I don't believe that this is how die chips typically look, especially multiple sharp points like this. Additionally, this area appears the same between the two coins I have, and one is a different die stage than the other (i.e., the doubling has not grown larger on the later die state coin.)

@shaney777, I'd be happy to fund you for authentication just to allow a CT member to claim FIRST rights on a new discovery. Just PM me your mailing address and I'll send you a check.
