It is understandable you can only give your opinion by what you see
but it would be advisable if you listen to the description of the coin and error, now your example is an excellent example of what causes some errors in US coins.
And I totally agree with you but again it does not apply to this coin it can apply to coins that looks similar to this one

and as far as seeing a shelf I would draw the same conclusion be out in front leading the band for MD if that was the case, unfortunately it's not
like I said I personally could not find a US coin that matches the error in these UK coins
I'm seeing all the photos of the Kennedys in the cense
guess what no match.
I would be most happy to see a photo of a US coin that matches one of these UK coins
and I will spell it out for CTs GNP's what I would consider a match would be an example of coin one and two on this site Overs as a 95% match

 

It does not matter which country this coin is from. The striking process is the same or extremely similar. This is a "severe" case of Machine Doubling. How it happens I explained in my earlier post.

Justt a question, please do not take this the wrong way - what made you think I was describing "US Machine Doubling" only? Machine Doubling/strike doubling can apply to coins from almost all countries.
