2017 ATB Designs Selected

Ellis Island is OK since my wife's mother came in through there after WWII. But that entire series has done zero for me.

 

I wouldn't mind a few pucks but the whole series is a joke.

 

On a related point, I didn't realize Ellis Island is in New Jersey. So; is the Statue of Liberty really in New Jersey also?

 

They have the charm of some of that junk out of the Franklin mint.

 

No offense, but Frederick Douglas looks like the black Bob Ross. I mean, Fred looks like he's about to paint a bunch of happy little trees and birds. Perhaps a nice mountain landscape behind the house. I like it, don't get me wrong. It's okay. Better than effigy mounds. That looks like they got some four year old's together with some sand molds and decided to use that design.
The other two... as I agree with one poster... Just eh. Except the very last one is the best.

 

Ozarks could be a really nice looking one, the others are all kind of blah

Of those quarter designs, I find the Effigy Mounds design interesting. The others, oh well.

Indiana, New Jersey, and Missouri have amazing detailed designs, although I don't own any ATB pucks, they seem too high priced from the Mint.

 

I like Iowa, Missouri and Indiana.

I am with Treehugger. Very pedestrian designs.

Why don't they try more items like the Mount Rushmore one? Be creative, look at items from a different angle, you know, be more ARTISTIC. These five look like the finalists of a 5th grade art contest. Way too literal and unoriginal.

 

A while back I was watching the tube and there was a land dispute between New Jersey and New York about who 'owns' Ellis island. Presumably because it's a tourist hot spot. That's where my great grandfather arrived in the states. His sea chest is still in the family

 

These Pucks are the best deal going in numismatic bullion. One can buy ASE's, where 40 million are made each year or these Pucks where only 10's of thousands are made for around the same premium paid for ASE's per ounce. Hmm, wonder which have the most potential. I personally like all of the designs and the way the P's hold their value even when silver declines.

Hope the distain for these Pucks shown on this page continues, keeping the mintages low, until the series ends and they have their day, propelling values to the moon.

Being the statequarterguy, I have them all, this is my "Big Boy" quarter collection and bullion hoard.

 

I am not sure about the disdain shown here. I like some of the designs, I just find these new ones very pedestrian. I do not care how "scarce", (like any modern coin which 10,000 are minted is really scarce), they get, I simply would not have a desire to own such a design. I actually pointed out how much I liked the Mt Rushmore one, and wished they did the same for the other issues.

 

To each their own, I would have preferred an iconic shot of Rushmore, they should be "pedestrian", as they're supposed to honor and capture the beauty of our national parks/sites. Those are my favorites, the ones that allow me to feel like I'm standing there taking in the best of the site.

Based on the later, Ozark is my favorite for 2017. Not only does it capture the site, it uses a technique I follow in landscape photography, FRAME THE SCENE, most often with trees.

When it comes to modern U.S. coins, 10k is not only scarce, it's downright rare. Of course demand comes into play and the lack of current demand it what's creating this rarity. If/when the demand materializes, these Pucks are going to look very rare.

 

I hated that one, was basically just a giant nose. That wasn't the one to try getting cute with

 

LOL, yeah, a giant nose with spiders and webs on it.

 

Way better and artistically interesting than the same old frontal view of the monument. I believe sales and public appreciation has reflected this.
