Though I will very likely not buy a 2017 Liberty gold, mostly due to the typically inflated price of such coins (I'd rather buy an ounce of gold at spot with minimal markup), I don't think the coin looks that bad, especially in gold. I might purchase one in silver, again, depending on the premium.

I also highly agree with the earlier comment that coins are politics. One could arguably call them propaganda, but that term fell into disuse after World War II and was replaced by the more innocuous "public relations." This can, like most things, serve for good or bad. Coins get distributed to millions upon millions and they represent, at best, attempts to sum up a nation's values and, at worst, attempts to sway people to a certain version of someone's idea of reality. This is what makes them so fascinating, especially on a global and historical scale. One can look at the coins of a nation over time and deduce how that nation wanted to represent itself to its own members and to the world. Coins and politics remain inseparable.

That said, I've seen too many forums dissolve from an over injection of politics. Threads quickly become highly polarized, insensitive and intolerable. They rarely fit the definition of "debate" and usually deteriorate into invective. As such, the moderators are very wise to eliminate such elements from the forum as quickly as possible and to assiduously monitor posts for such content. Opening that gate would quickly ruin this forum. This persistence is one of the many things that keeps me coming back here.
