After closely looking at the "height" or "depth" of the apparent doubling it looks to me as if they are of almost equal shape and size. Have I stumbled across a DDO 2016 D penny?

You’re looking too closely. A 10x loupe is about all you need for errors and varieties.

Many LMC varieties and such are told by a die marker indicating double eyelids which is very difficult to see under 20-30x much less 10x

Most of those die markers don’t require high power magnification to do that. Besides, people are way to quick to jump to super high magnification without even being able to recognize standard errors at 10x. I only use a 10x loupe and it suits me just fine. To each their own, but the more you magnify things, the more you start to “see” things.
