The problem seems to be on the reverse. See die chips but there's something else going on here. Can you tell me what you think.
You've seen it in hand, do you have any theories? You're talking about the lines right? Are they raised at all?
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry about the light, it sucks. Yes, the fine lines. I tried to get the angle right so you can see it. It's not raised. That horizontal dark area has a proof like finish to it in relation to the rest of the coin. Very smooth and very shiny like. Just seems to be in an odd place/area on the coin without affecting the leaves or torch. I also wonder if the die chips on both plants would give any clues about the issue.
the dies could have clashed, which may have caused the breaks where the chips are and a worker polished it for a quick fix...just a guess..
Wow, I've never seen such specific area die polishing with symmetrical lateral only lines. If it were in the fields I would say it looks like counting wheel damage. It does appear to be die polishing but what would have clashed in that area? The mid-top torch area is lined up with the jaw line which should be recessed enough to not be able to touch the reverse die in that area while clashing no? Maybe it was a die dent they were getting rid of?
Hmmm, I see a lot of folks viewed this thread. Wish I could have gotten more feedback. Thanks for your replies!
