I'd be shocked if the mint actually stuck to that. With the way these other coin and chronicle sets have gone I suspect the mint will change their minds and just continue the presidential dollar RP series until they run out of former presidents.

Because it guarantees the resale market to be flatter than the Great State of IOWA!

The Kennedy will most certainly sell for less than issue price IMO and the lsabbing companies will have to come up with some fancy slab label in order for the Authorized Dealers to actually turn some profits on this one.

Looking at the link, it becomes obvious how badly the US Mint screwed up the portrait they were copying. The official White House portrait shows only a "trace" of what could be considered eyes while the US Mint's rendering shows off them "bug eyes" in full relief. Kinda like it was sculpted by Jim Davis for his Garfield Comic.

I still believe that whomever approved that portrait should be fired for dishonoring JFK.

Kennedy is facing the wrong direction on some of the coins?

I imagine that some con man somewhere will show the White House Portrait and the coin to some ignorant sap and declare that it's a rare and valuable mint error.

No matter what the mint does going forward, there will always be those who find fault in their operations.

    I can just see it:

    Mintage raised to 50K
    • Whine 1: too high to be exclusive like the others
    • Whine 2: still not enough for everyone who wants one to get it
    • Whine 3: I'm sure there are more, but I'll stop here

    Change HH limit to 1:
    • Whine 1: how will I be able to flip any of these and make money if I can only get 1?
    • Whine 2: I'll have to create more than one account so I can buy more than one

I think the Kennedy will still do well. 50k is the same mintage as the enhanced native dollar, and it carries a nice premium.

With the upcoming change to 50k on future C&C sets, at least for the next few issues, does anyone feel it is speculative to buy the FDR's with 20k, should 50k be the new norm? For the long term?

I am talking about the set as a whole, not the individual coins.

No, if they were worth buying they would have sold out in 17 minutes.

Collectors want the reverse proof which is not in the FDR set.

Yep, I'm completely tracking on that. I was just thinking there might be a slight possibility in the set as a whole in the future.

With the focus today on the reverse proof, FDR could be a sleeper.

I only want these sets for the RP. The other sets don't interest me in the least. Just one data point, but I don't think the non RP sets will carry demand into the future.

    Just my 2 cents.

They outta start at the beginning with Washington and work their way up.

I don't think they can do that without a law change allowing them to do so unless they re-dated the older coins.

But the 50K enhanced Sac is the key to that set, the RP Kennedy will only be a semi-key for the President dollar set.

Why? Surely they must have some proof coins lying around and the medals don't have dates. Either that or just an uncirculated Presidential dollar. Besides, as collector coins, they can pretty much do whatever they want since the law authorizes them to make collectors editions of circulating coinage. The date things is just a tradition.
