2014 Kennedy 50th anniversary announcement

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by TopcatCoin, Jun 11, 2014.

  1. This was the first "official" post of the exact on sale date from the US Mint Facebook page. It also assures that people can order at the same time as when people can buy at ANA in Chicago. It seems like they also may be able to get them at US Mint stores as well that day. I am also hoping that gold drops but that does not look likely now.

Does this mean I can't flip them for $5000 a piece on August 6th??? :( Hahahaha!

  4. Update on Kennedy SILVER set:

The United States Mint is announcing a price of $99.95 for the 50th

I concur, given the current world situation. I was hoping that a proof Kennedy gold half dollar would sell for approximately $999. Something tells me with the strong possibility of a strong rise in the price of gold, $1149 may be a more accurate price point by the time the coin is available.

50 years I have waited. I still recall how dam cold and windy the day was first Kennedy was issued. Folks lined up at banks just to have one.50yrs ago.

I don't know, if you can pick them up at the ANA show and get them into a first day of issue PF-70 slab you might find some fool on eBay that would buy it for that.

First day of issue to me is not worth extra you pay today.

At current prices a .75 oz 24k piece would be about 1267.50

Thank you. Whatever way you slice it, this is going to make this particular Kennedy half dollar the key to the series and definitely its most expensive!

Definitely. And if there is no flip potential quite out of my price range.

I can understand that. The only time I ever bought "extras" for the potential to resell was the 2011 set of five American silver eagles. I bought the full limit of five sets and have never had the heart to sell any of them. I just cannot part with my coin treasure.

I hope to buy just one.

Have they announce if there will be mintage limits? Where are you finding the new information?

  16. Nothing reported on limits yet. Info from US Mint Facebook and Twitter. TC

Geez guys thanks for keeping us old geezers who aren't inclined to Tweet and FB about the status. You would think the Mint could keep their own website updated with this information for the dinosaurs.

    Best Regards, :)
