Correct, the celebration occurs "after" the year has been completed.
You're not 1 years old on the day you are born nor is it your 1s Anniversary on the day you are married.

What is really stupid of the US Mint is that they are making special sets with the obverse having the higher relief design of Kennedy as made in 1964, but they aren't doing anything to the reverse. Why can't the US Mint have both the obverse and reverse be the same as 1964 with the mintmarks being on the reverse as in 1964. That would make for a really interesting set that collectors would really like IMHO.

I'm starting to think these might all be released with no mintage limits or household order limits. Good for collectors, but part of the fun would've been in the exclusivity of it.

The 2014 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Gold Proof Coins will be sold via the United States Mint’s Web site, http://www.usmint.gov, toll-free number, 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468), and over-the-counter at various United States Mint sales centers starting August 5th 2014 at 12:00 noon (ET).

Nope low interest rates = high gold.

 

not sure why 2012 is still there, but 2013 was such a high mintage that they probably arent worth more than face value. i spend them when i find them in rolls.
