The P and D coins in the 50th anniversary set will be different than the 2014 regular business strikes (from the article in my original post): "The obverses of these seven 2014 coins will bear the original higher relief portrait sculpt of Kennedy that U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts executed in 1963 originally for a Kennedy medal and that was subsequently adapted for the half dollar in 1964. Assistant Mint Engraver Frank Gasparro’s Heraldic Eagle reverse, as introduced in 1964 and still in use today, will appear on the reverse." I have already posted an example of the 2014 D business strike Kennedy half (MS67) in this thread. The Kennedy halves in the 2-coin set will not look like this but more like the 1964 business strikes. I like the potential of the regular business strikes this year especially in high grade. TC
I'll buy the 4 coin silver if it is $200 or less. I won't buy the gold even if the price collapsed to $35 an ounce
If they're different, then I guess I have to get all 7 for the chance of keeping my Kennedy set complete....
If the gold baseball commems cost $420 & sold on eBay for $4000, should I charge $14,950 for each Kennedy? :b
Well at least they will not be able to get a HOF autograph on them . I will be a buyer for the silver and gold issues JFK's . Looks like my Gold HOF coins have finally been billed to the credit card. Silver are still in limbo
Oh, I'm sure the TPGs will come with some gimmick that is just as bad if they think they can make money on it.
No word if the series will continue or not on the Mint website. http://www.usmint.gov/campaigns/?ac...og&utm_medium=skyscraper&utm_campaign=kennedy TC
I'm not sure it matters. They've been effectively out of circulation for decades now, and I haven't seen any practical ideas for getting them back into daily use. We've all standardized on greenbacks, quarters, and small coins that are no longer worth the time it takes to count them.
Still, I think that this program will provide a big boost to the Kennedy Half Dollar series. Even though I think that the gold version is stupid for 2014. 2017, the 100th anniversary of Kennedy's birth would have been more fitting for a gold coin.
I don't think it will make that big of a difference. There might be a short term surge in collector interest...but that will be it. It won't affect the opinion of these coins amongst non-collectors. This coin has not been produced for circulation for over a decade and the numbers produced for collectors greatly exceed the numbers collected. This series is basically dead but is still being produced. I think the only thing that keeps it going is no legislator wants to be the guy who proposes the bill to stop production of the "great" JFK's coin.
