I'll almost certainly buy a silver set at least.

The people who tend to get upset at the Mint are usually coin flippers. They're at a disadvantage when large dealers get their coins earlier, but it's no surprise to me that the Mint caters to bigger customers first. At any rate, that doesn't apply to me, and I don't really care if it takes a month or two to receive my order.

I'm not ordering the gold, so let's talk silver. Anyone hear anything new about the silver set?

    Mine finally showed up

Sometimes I wish we could just buy the coins and not the extra packaging.

It's very much like Geraldine the Operator said in the Laugh-In skit about the phone company (which was a monopoly at the time). "We don't care. We don't have to. (snort, snort)" [IMG] The US Mint is a monopoly. They have no competition, so it's going to be take it or leave it.

In fairness, though, they have responded to many customers' complaints, especially since the First Spouse gold coin debacle in 2007 and the 25th ASE anniversary set debacle in 2011. It took a long time, but they have changed their ordering system to make it less chaotic and I think it worked very well for the Kennedy gold halves. They've started issuing more coins that will be minted to order.

Was at the Chicago ANA show this last week. Got a few of the 2-coin clad sets which I think are a great set and good value for $10. Bought a few of them for coin club prizes.

Also got one of the gold Kennedy Halves which was a crazy experience to try to get one with all of the hype and dealers who paid hundreds to stand in line.

The Mint also had a prototype set of the upcoming silver set on display. Looked pretty neat:

Thanks for posting! So, is that the actual packaging the mint will use and what does the rest of it look like?

It looked to be like a hardcover folder, sort of like a hardcover book sort of material which would fold over the coins. Then there appeared to be some paperwork/booklets regarding the coins and then a slipcover that all would fit into.

Does that correspond with any coin shows? Here's hoping it doesn't.....
