To me this seems the most fair. So what, you miss an hour of the show? Show starts at 10, coins go on sale at 11. If they just randomly yelled a place to go, it would be chaos. If they did the line INSIDE the actual bourse, only dealers would be in line. This seems reasonable.

No, it's still prejudicial to the people who do not have creds ahead of time. If you want real fairness, then have everyone interested fill out a simple form, at 10am they draw 250 names, first name getting ticket #1, etc, plus maybe 25 extra in case everyone does not take 2 gold Kennedys, then the mint does a simple quick photo ID check to verify you are the right person, then on to the register. That gives everyone the same fair chance every day to get some of the gold Kennedys and have the special label.

You could have pre-registered.... right?? I did. How is it fair if I am smart enough to pre-register, get there early, etc, but all they do is draw names, and joe schmoe who walks in last minute gets picked via lottery?? Tough luck if you are not willing to work a little for it.

I honestly can't remember if I pre-registered or not. Smart has nothing to do with it because you had no idea that the ANA would decide to do it this way. If the mint's and ANA's intention is to be fair to everyone, the draw is the only way to do it. How would you feel if 225 people got their creds about 8am and got numbers and you didn't? Just saying......

Excellent point. I'm not sure if fairness was even considered. It appears safety was the stronger concern. Add to it the blockage in front of many dealer booths while the line stayed put until 11am. Too many upset dealers for the ANA to contend with.

If safety is their concern, who is going to monitor what could be hundreds of people milling around outside at 6am, 7am? Who is going to monitor who may be cutting in line with their friends before they hand out the tickets, or monitor the paid minions from the dealers that might send one person to get in line and then start cutting in right before the tickets are handed out? There are numerous problems with doing it all the ways they have suggested so far. That's all I am pointing out. I'll try to get my share. If I fail, so be it. If I get them, great.

Being smart is being prepared. I called ANA weeks ago, and this is the procedure she told me would happen. Since then, the mint came up with the terrible idea to cause a stampede, and then ANA stepped in and changed it. I knew it was a possibility, so wanted to be ready for it. The draw is not fair for people who are coming long distances and are prepared to wait. To make it "fair", should they lower the price so everyone can afford one? How is $1,300 fair for people who have no money? Life isn't fair, learn to adapt and deal with it the best you can.

I come from NC so I don't just drive up the street to get in line. So yes, telling some people weeks before the rest of the members is inherently unfair to the one only finding out today. People shouldn't have to call weeks in advance in the hopes that they can get some kind of privileged information before the rest of the ANA members. It's still a terrible idea no matter what you think. After the first day everyone will have their creds so it may be different, other than possibly a stampede at the doors to the convention center when they open. We shall see...there is still a week to consider and change things.

The way they are doing it, I am willing to drive 6+ hours and take my chances. I know if I do not get one, it will because someone wanted it more than me, and got in line earlier. I am OK with that. I am not OK with getting there before everyone else, driving 6+ hours, then they just give it to someone else because of a random draw. I have never heard someone thinking first come first serve was not fair.

  11. will they form the line outside the convention center or in the lobby of the convention center? thanks

All I have heard is outside the bourse. I will keep going as far as they will let me go...

Another question also answered about children in line. You will need an ID and must be 18 years of age.

But how will they enforce that?

And have show credentials. Which unless you are already pre-registered you won't be able get those credentials until at least 8AM, the same time the line starts forming. So the dealers, their assistants, early birds(?), and those collectors who pre-registered will all be able to get in line while the attending collectors are still getting theirs.

    Good luck.

I wonder what happens after the 250 tickets are handed out? Do they then just turn the mob loose? What if the 250 tickets don't consume the entire 500 allotted coins? (Not everyone buys two.) Or will they bring tickets back out for those that only buy one so they can hand them out to the next person waiting in line?

There will still be those that buy two and then sell one to a dealer at a profit to help offset what they paid for the one they want to keep.

I mentioned on page 1 that I thought there would be trouble.

A few people thought I was nuts, yeah right.
