I really don't see how talking about the violence in Chicago is off subject. People will be walking around with thousands of dollars... It's on everyone's mind (including mine and my wife's). I wish they held this in a different city.
As someone said, Rosemont is not Chicago. It is probably at least 20 miles away and is a town mostly made up of hotels, restaurants and stores. They use the name "Chicago" as a branding tool, like saying "New York Giants" even though they play in New Jersey.
Yes, rosemont is a town filled with hotels, convention centers, restaurants, and tons of police to protect all the tourist that come there. It is surrounded by a international airport, with an abundance of police and security, and a wealthy suburb filled with million dollar houses. I think you will be ok.
Yes, most people who stay in the area are people who flew into O'Hare or who are in town for conventions like this. There are a few hotels just across from this convention center that are nice. I've been to another coin show at the Crowne Plaza across the street.
There have order limit at ANA SHOW for the gold kennedy half dollar, probably 1 or 2 units per person. is there anyone know can 7 years old kid get the units too at the mint booth? For those who have experience for the gold baseball issue and the buffalo reverse gold coin at the show.
I stay out in Schaumburg close to my grand kids. I don't worry about the stuff in Chicago. Besides, there is a Baby Ray's BBQ restaurant on the way back to Schaumburg...mmmmmmmmm, good!
What time is everyone planning to get in line? Are you able to even get in line until 9:30, if you have ana membership? If the line forms outside the building, will all the dealers already have the line going inside, since they are already there? My concern is the 500 coin per day limit. If the dealers have 250 people in line before we can even get in, will it be impossible for us to buy one?
If you take into consideration what they did with the baseball comem, first come first serve for the gold BUT after they were out of gold, they still had silver and clad dollars. Because they know the money is not in the clad Kennedy's(well, really because people are going to be complaining like crazy), they are going to limit the release per customer to a smaller amount to try to satisfy the most amount of customers in line.
Problem is, 500 a day at 2 per person is going to cause complete havoc and a lot of pissed off people unless the mint and ANA come up with a completely fair and equitable way for "everyone" to have a chance at their fair share of the pot. That means not letting the dealers and their paid minions get the jump on the general public! The alternative is for the mint to stop this insanity and only selling online on the date of issue. Sure, that might irritate the TPGs cause they can't charge those high grading fees for the super special labels, but it would also cut somewhat into ANA's profits from the non-members that would not attend and therefore not pay to attend who we're coming only to get the coins and special labels. So it will be very interesting to see what they come up with that will be fair to everyone, if they can at all.
Well thats where the big money for all these comems are, the tpg's expensive labels. People buy they label for coins like this and will pay a huge premium for it.
For a second year in a row, the show will be held while I'm on my annual Canadian Fishing Trip. I'm a little bummed. For those of you staying in the area (I grew up near Rosemont, but no longer live there), you must try D'Agastino's thin crust pizza. There is also a Geno's East (Deep Dish) close to the convention center. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and prefer thin crust pizza. Cheese & Sausage pizza @ D'Agostino's is awesome. When visiting HQ of my last company, I would stay within 2 minutes of the Rosemont convention center and always had dinner there at least once. The D'Agostino's is on Higgins. Geno's East is also on Higgins about 1-2 miles away.
You guy's taking a summer vacation aug 5-8 to get the new Kennedy duel dated high relief gold coins ? Be careful and have fun ! PR70
In a Coin World Newsletter sent electronically, they indicated the location for the gold coin sale would be announced at 11am over the P.A. System. The coins were not being sold at the mint booth. So accordingly, lining up there will be nonproductive for those who do. They will have three registers available for processing sales. They will pass out line numbers to those who arrive in the announced area on a first come first serve basis. Good luck to all those who survive the ordeal. You can expect some pushing and shoving as a mass of humanity arrives simultaneously.
There was a posting on the Coincommunity forum from the ANA that far safety reasons (probably to avoid a stampede.) they are now going to have the line form outside the bourse floor in the lobby starting at 8AM. You must have your admission credentials to stand in line. Then at 10:30 to 10:45 they will hand out tickets to the first 250 people in line and take those people through a side door entrance to the mint booth. That takes the advantage away from the dealers and the early birds, but you can bet those people who preregistered and got their credentials early will be in line BEFORE 8AM (While everyone else is getting theirs. Credential processing starts at 8 AM.) And by the time they start handing out the tickets there will be a LOT more than 250 people waiting. Another PR flop for the Mint.
That will be just as big a mess as just lining up. And it's inherently unfair to pretty much everyone but dealers who will have their minion's credentials ahead of time and they will all line up. And it's unfair to the regular collector who want to try to get a couple at the show. I do not see it taking away the advantage to the dealers. And this also means you have to stand in the "special line" for 2.5 hours hoping to get a ticket and not be able to wander the tables in the show, which was just as bad as standing in line last year for the gold buffaloes. And how many of the people that will have their creds early will start lining up at 6am just to make sure they get their gold? I think there will again be a lot of pissed off people and a lot of complaints going to the mint.
