My guess would be "nostalgia"... Btw, I ordered two (2) sets and just received them today. The packaging isn't "UHR"-nice, but it's "Premier Silver Proof"-nice. I originally had no plans to buy any of these sets (price seemed too high), but when the US Mint made instant rarities out of the 2012 Silver Proof sets (as predicted in the thread "Free Money"), I felt compelled to buy a couple of these sets before they sold out, too. The only coins unique to the 2012 Silver Proof set is the Kennedy Half Dollar and the Roosevelt Dime; each finishing with a final mintage of 395,443! But Wait!!! That doesn't include the ones issued in this 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof set! This will likely add an additional 50,000 to the total, bringing the Grand Total to 445,443. Still, this is about 130,000 less than the 2011 mintage of these two (2) coins. True...445,443 are a lot of coins, but it makes them the new Key Dates for the series! 2012 Silver Proof sets are selling for over $100 on eBay as I type...largely due to the Kennedy Half and Roosevelt Dime. When you consider the 2012 Proof ASE was $62.95 and the 2012 Silver Proof set was $67.95 (minus $5.06 non-silver coins)...that comes to $125.84...or $24.11 less than the $149.95 sales price of the 2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof set. HOWEVER...when you consider that the sold-out 2012 Silver Proof set is selling for a $40 premium on eBay (due to the Key Date coins also contained in the "still-available" Limited Edition set)...the price doesn't seem so bad. As a bonus, you also get some nice packaging. :hail:
