so I was really bored and wanted some laughs and so I turned the channel to "coin Vault" and they were selling 2011 W Mint Mark American silver Eagle for $69.95 each and they mentioned something about these having a mintage under 200,000.... is that really true?? a mintage UNDER 200,000! anyone know where or ho to look this up? if this is true I think I'm going to see about buying some up from the mint as I see they are still on sale...like 20 or more :D

yea but the 2006 one has a mintage of 466,573 if these are well under that like it sounds...these would be the new 2006....or am I wrong? I just notice "low" mintages of coins seem to jack the prices up on them 10 fold or more...

200k isn't a low mintage for any bullion no matter how much demand

I'm afraid that's all just tv hype and salesmanship. You know just from the 100K mintage of anniversary sets there is at least 200K or more. You can't tell me only 100K more were sold in addition to those sold out sets. No one has mintage or final sales figures yet. Only on proofs as they sold out topping out at 950K made in 2011.

The only thing in coin vaults defense is they rerun shows alot. At the time of taping the 25th anniversary sets may not have been announced yet so they were going on projected sales figures to that point in time. As for price ha they bought when the mint was selling at $60 and change so they have to sell them at huge markup. The final adjusted price that I know of was something around 50-52 from the mint and most places because the coins are newer only charge about $1-2 over spot.

I wouldn't defend coin vault...those guys are out to make as much money as possible per sale...whether the crap they sell is worth half what you pay or less...I only watch them to see the coins and then decide if I want to buy and then look elsewhere....
my only point is I heard mintage of 200,000 and was wondering if that's true...I can't find the mintage anywhere...

    A. These are not just "bullion"

    B. If the mintage of this set is that low it is a good buy.

Does anyone here know of a site that has the sales figures so far?

Yeah, me three. :) What the devil did I pay for these back when the mint first released them last year? $60? Win some, loose some.....

The 2008 w had a mintage of only 444,558 and they still only sell for around $50 on ebay. The 2011 was at 345,757 sales on January 30th and the mint is still selling them. At this point the 2011 w silver eagle does not look like a good buy.

200k of any collectible isn't rare.

I know you're right Guano. Mass quantities of these big honkin' silver disks being made........Still, just something about them that strikes collector fancy. We just can't help ourselves. I don't stack 'em but I sure as the devil love to collect 'em, and if they only appreciate for bullion prices down the road, well then so be it. But ya know something? There was another bullion coin made back about a hundred twenty five years ago designed by a guy named George T. Morgan. Many of those coins languished in bank vaults for years and years 'cause nobody wanted those heavy, large, cumbersome coins in their purse or pocket. Many of those coins today command large premiums and they were minted in quantities of the millions, not the thousands.........:)

Wow, that statement is completely incorrect. Demand drives everything in this hobby. What makes the 1909-S VDB so special with it's mintage of 484,000 but nobody cares about the 1860 3-cent silver piece with a mintage of 286,000. It's just the demand. That is what makes coins valuable. It's all supply and demand. A modern bullion coin can be rare and collectible if there is enough demand...and with the popularity of these coins and a mintage of 200K, there is certainly enough demand.

What you fail to see is those weren't minted with the intention of being a collectible items surrounded by hype, these are, items with lots of hype at release date will always for the most part have a demishing Demand as time goes by. The good collectibles are the things not surrounded with hype from the beginning, things that weren't cherished from the get go.

You guys are so desperate for the latest and greatest in a hobby that just doesn't work like that.

The RCM lists 20 best sellers with mintages from (588,888 pure silver $29.95) to (500 14 karat gold $2,649.95).

    Not on the list were the immediate sell outs 11 & 12 $150 face 2500 mintage = 75%gold / 25% SLV for $688.88.

Other sell outs are the pure gold Kilo coins. The higher mintage sold for $69,000 and the rarest was $59,995.95

If we can't agree what drives value here in the US. How do the canadians speculate with more and different factors some of which involve coins with embedded stones, color, shapes, reliefs, holograms and composition. And yet most share a common mug shot.

This brings up another question to argue about - who lives in "Bizarro World" ?

Often times they do have a diminishing demand...but sometimes they don't. There have been earlier releases in this series that did not decrease in demand because this series is so beloved. Look at the "collectible" coins produced by the mint over the years...many aren't worth anything over spot today but a few are worth way more. This coin will be an exception to this rule like those other few because of the demand.
