Both of my coins arrived Tuesday- a day early. I noticed just a bit of lint in the coin holder.... not on the coin itself and I could tell via magnification. I examined the coins thoroughly and can say the two I received are stunning, absolutely stunning. I don't see any hazing/spots/scratches at all. I had my two on subscription so glad I now have them. The frosted devices on these coins are just amazing as well, I think more so than previous years coins. Now of course I'm going to examine them for potential errors/doubling/what not... but I doubt anything is there.
I bought 5 of these coins on two subscriptions I had set up last year hoping to get a 2009 coin. 4 looked good this one has a bit of what I guess is plastic in with the coin. It also has a spot on one of the Eagles talons that I noticed when looking with a 8X loupe. When checking the other coins with the loupe they all have a line under the s in Pluribus that I could not see with the naked eye. I don't know if I'm going to send them back yet, I'm off tomorrow so I guess I'll have to give it some thought today. Here are a few photos. Mike
Mike, that hit on the eagle talon is on several other coins. I know I had at least 3 or 4 that had that spot there, and several with them in other places.
In 2008 I got a burnished 08/rev 07 from the mint. The coin is gorgeous, but had several strands of lint or whatever stuck to the coin, between the holder and metal itself. I guess lint is better than big slide marks and gouges I have been getting on my mint set coins the past couple years. When I moved the ASE to my Dansco, the strands were so stuck to the coin, I was afraid I was going to marr the coin by trying to get them off. I think all but one came off...
Got mine today. Couple spots on the reverse to the left of the eagle. I'll post pics as soon as I get some decent ones.
I had the same thing only a tad bit longer on one of mine on the obv. it ran from the rim thru the suns rays...it's plastic from the air tight. I removed it it look at first to be a scratch
I'm still unable to access my "My Account" on the top tab after logging in, however, I can access "edit my account" directly below that tab.
I just checked and everything seems to work OK, albeit, a bit slow. Pushed my 2nd eagle order back to the 16th.....
I'm very disappointed in the proof silver eagle I received. The obverse is all spotted up near the right rim. It almost looks chipped from its appearance. I'll be returning it and canceling my ASE subscription. Perhaps I'm just going to stick with classic coins for now on. The mint has really turned me off to anything they currently offer. They are becoming a tad bit more greedy and less caring about quality.
Below is the message I get after clicking the "My Account" tab next to the "Track Order" tab. 'Track Order' and the other buttons work, 'My Account' doesn't.
If you can, post a photo of the problem area: spots, that chip or anything else. I sent the Mint a letter back with my return with a detailed description including printed images of the problems I cited to them. I was trying to remove my subscriptions on the Mint web site this week following the problem coins I received. As you can see, I am unable to access "My Account" to do this!
Yeah, I had the same problem. When you login, use this link: https://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/w...ayCmd?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001 Unfortunately, I already have my ASE ready to ship away. It's nothing special, just what you'd imagine - a nice distracting group of spots (looks like tiny pits/craters). It's a shame really, because I was really looking forward to this coin and was greeted to garbage. The frustration has just gone too far. Dealing with the US Mint is like dealing with foreign customer service. Frankly, I'm tired of playing their games. I'd rather pay for a certified one - because their products apparently NEED professional review before you buy it.
UPDATE: Just received a USPS delivery confirmation regarding the five (5) 2010 Proof ASEs that I shipped back to PBGS for a refund due to the 'haze' issue I detailed in the thread(s) on this issue. Glad to have them off my hands. I hope they don't send these out to another collector.
FINALLY! I found a backdoor to the "My Account" page via the US Mint 'Site Map'. I've canceled both of my subscriptions for future Proof ASEs from the Mint. If I change my mind and want to buy this product from the Mint again, I will just order on day of release like I used to do up to 2008.
The "Yakpoo" Report... I had leftover 2009 subscriptions of (15, 5, and 1) for a total of 21 ASEs. Of those 21 coins, 14 are nice and 7 have blemishes. Some of the blemishes are small areas were the lazer frosting appears weak; not terribly bad, but noticable. Four of the coins have actual (albeit small) post-mint gouges. Nearly all the coins had some sort of debris (hair, lint, etc) in the capsule. Overall...about what I expected. I'll keep the fifteen (15) subscription and return the five (5) and one (1) subscription.
The only way the U.S. Mint is going to take notice of Customer Dissatisfaction, is if they have to process returns in numbers they had not projected . Otherwise, we can sit here all day and complain about the poor product quality from the mint, and no one in a position at the mint will ever know the extent of customer dissatisfaction.
Seems the order shipping dates are reversed I have placed 2 orders for proof eagles. One was placed on 11/19 at 10PM, that one is on back order and is scheduled to ship on 12/16. I placed a second order on 11/26 at 2:25 PM which is also on back order and is scheduled to ship on 12/02. Is this normal?
