Currently under the law they will be copper plated zinc. They tried to get a law passed that would have allowed them to use steel which would probably also have been copper plated, but I'm fairly sure that died with the last Congress. Persoanlly I think this is the perfect time to kill off the cent. 100 years of Lincoln and it wraps up the century and the denomination in one nice package.
Thanks... I guess we will wait and see... Wonder if the mint will make less than a million of these, because they couldn't find enough blanks.. LOL
I actually like LP-14, but the only thing that seems off is the 1c mark. LP-13 is still my favorite though. Here's a pretty good gallery of the 17 being considered: http://www.coinnetwork.com/photo/albums/2010-lincoln-cent-design
Ewww... You like the LP-14... Well, maybe it is just me, because I don't like shield nickels, and such...
If they go with the shield, some company will be making a colorized red & white cent the day after they come out. Blah Does anybody know when the deadline is for the decision on the 2010 design? And who makes the final call on which one they go with? Anybody going to Lincoln City, Indiana in the morning? I sure would like to have a set from there. Chuck
Why can the Mint get rid of all those people who design these new modern stuff and also the people who pick them ? I just thought lately alot of the design have been very bad. Why can we go back to basic rather trying to design something that get in change and never really take a good look at the coin. I still like the older design of the coins that were made.
Is it just me or is this eagle missing something? Like feet, and a tail? Looks too much like a feathered dragon.
Nice catch on the missing tail and feet. Still sticking with 17, but this might look a lot better if it were finished with tailfeathers, a set of claws grasping arrows, etc., plus come up with something better to put on the banner . . . Come to think of it, just start this one over.
