I agree it does look like a DD however without being able to look at it in hand it may be an MD..Hopefully Mike Diamond can give you some insight.

Everyone keeps referring to the "D", but clearly the "V" and the "B" are doubled also. The top picture in the 13th reply shows this doubling best. - I saw a string of the 1969 S cents with the "VDB" doubled sell on ebay awhile back, and they were labeled as "Double Dies". Usually when "mechanical doubling" is present the letters and or numbers on the coin are "stepped doubling".Such as the 1955 "Poor Man's Double Die". -The second set of letters and or numbers step down toward the coin. -Just like a set of steps. On true "double dies" the second set are the same height. Sometimes it's even hard to tell which set is the right set. These can range from barely noticeable to severe, such as the 1955 double die lincoln cent. - I've been collecting error coins for close to 30 years. These are only my opinions. Your's may differ.

If at all possible can I get a couple more opinions on this? I think I have a buyer for it, but really would like to know what would be a fair price to sell it for, good for me, good for them.

No, I will though,..thanks for the info. I didn't know how to reach him. I will try both. I found a really rough looking coin today..a 1992 P..It really looks like a WAM..but it is beat all to heck. I am going to post it and see what people think. Thanks again:)

It's almost certainly a case of machine doubling. When MD involves incuse design elements the appearance is rather different than when MD affects raised elements. The incuse elements show doubling that looks like a doubled die. But it's not. Machine doubling that affects the initials VDB is rather common among Lincoln cents.
