The 2010 Mexican Libertads are now available. As many of you know, these coins now come in various sizes (including 1 oz., 2 oz., 5 oz., etc.) and are also available in bullion and proof versions. I only have some of the 1 oz. bullion Libertads but really like the design and am considering purchasing either larger sizes (2 oz. or 5 oz.) of the bullion issue or maybe a even a proof this year. Does anyone collect these beautiful coins? Any opinions on pros/cons of purchasing the larger bullion coins or proof versions? Thanks! TC
I like the Libertads but prefer to stick with the 1 oz. versions. Although conventional Libertads are well known, I think the larger versions are just gimmicks and would harder to sell in the future, should you have to go to a dealer to convert to cash.
I have several of the old style, the premium for the new one has been too high for me to justify, it is to me bullion. I hope to find one someday for spot or close to it.
I bought one for $22. Not the bullion investment that one here wants. I bought it for myself as a keepsake. It is 2008 and is in a clear plastic packaging, with a foam insert to keep it from clanking. It looks nice.
i too prefer the 1 OZ bullion coins. i do have a few of the 2 OZ coins though. i am definitely going to pick some up. the proofs are pretty stunning
I bought a 7 coin Libertad Set off eBay, has the small ones and the big ones... very cool!!!! Now I'm just missing the 1 kilo Libertad!!! The premiums on the big ones seem to get out of hand though, way over melt prices, but they are cool. Here's the seller's pics of the coins:
Here's the 1 kilo Libertad that I want to get... it's about 32 ounces of silver, but they go for between $800-$1000 lately... just too much of a premium, but they are pretty sweet!!
I searched on the phrase "most beautiful coin" once to see what people's opinions were, and that coin was one of the top results.
trying to do some research on the Libertads because I want to buy a couple for Keepsake (and I love the design of it) and would like to know if there are any years in particular that I should get or avoid. Thanks
Great looking coin, too big of a premium. How do they charge more than ASE... its from mexico! I could see maples being more money, but mexico stuff is supposed to be less mark up, not more!
I have a couple of older ones. Both were around $16 or $17 when I got them a few years ago. But now with the pricing up over $20 each they can keep them.
Last year I bought a proof set in a nice wood box. Was going to buy a one ounce gold but decided a better investment is to buy old gold coins.
2 or 5 oz vs. 1 oz Silver Proof Libertads I am interested in the collectible value of 2 oz or 5 oz proof Libertads compared to the 1 oz proof coins. The mintage numbers for the 2 oz and 5 oz coins are, in some cases, 75% less than the 1 oz. Any opinions from you savvy collectors? Thank you.
In my good grab buy a few days ago, I got five old libs 1988 to 1992. Just a pitty that nobody really likes them here. I would love to swop them for ASEs. Any takers?
That`s nice, and thanks for the offer:thumb: but im trying to swop all five in one action due to postage. Do you have three more?
Unfortunately I do not have an extras. I was trying to finish up my ASE and bought those 2 years by mistake (thought I didnt have them when I did )
I bought a 1 kilo Libertad 2 years ago. When it came home and I opened it, for some reason I had an overwhelming feeling that I had just splurged my money away. I sent it back and got a refund.
Yes, it's from Mexico and ppl like the design well enough to pay more than an ASE sometimes. Best to have from both countries and maybe even more. A slight deviation from the coinage before it and the Libertads now bring in the big dollars, especially for that big kilo size example. What a beauty!!
