Question for all of you guys and gals who purchase rolls of ASE's. I've purchased one roll of American Silver Eagles since 2004. In all of those years I've found the coins contained within the mint packaging to be tight and unmoving. That is to say, nothing "jiggled". In order to get the coins out of the mint packaging you had to really give the packaging a sound rap, or otherwise, employ a very sharp knife and carefully cut through the packaging in order to release what was contained inside. I find with this years purchase that the coins are rather loose. They move.... no.... rattle around, in the mint packaging. Anybody else experiencing this?
I have bought three or four rolls all older dates in the last couple of monthes. I have found that some of the coins are smaller then others as well. I have some that will not fit in the plastic air tight contaner (they are too big) Maybe its not the coin but the tube has gotten bigger?? Just a thought?
Not the case with my '10's. They basically slid out of the mint tube. This is not what I have experienced in past years. Again, anybody experiencing slippage with this years rolls/tubes?
I dont think the mint means to do anything with the rolls... prob just had them made by a different company who didnt account for molds heating up or something or over accounted for. but who knows, maybe they are thinking way more than I give them credit for.
they are mass produced (probably in china) and have +/- tolerance. they will vary. i have tubes going back to 89 and some are tight and some loose
How about the lid? I've noticed that no matter how tight or loose the roll is, the lid always sticks up a little. This makes it so that when the lid is on, the coins fit tight, atleast in one dimension, and this prevents them from clanking. Maybe the width isn't as improtant as the height?
Better send them to me Ken. I'll keep them so you won't hear that rattle no more... What are you doing with them anyway? Using them maracas playing the macarena? :goofer:
Maybe you can sell them on ebay as a special limited edition "rattler" roll and make some big money to buy more ASEs? TC
I ordered two rolls also, they seem looser in the mint tube than normal, even thiugh I did not remove any of them, just took off the mint roll cap to veiw the coins.
An experiment. Take ASE from an ealier period, say 2009 or 2008 and put them in the new roll. Do they rattle? If so, the tube is larger. If not, the coins are smaller.
Currently: Silver spot ask price at $15.70/oz. ex: 2010 ASEs on Apmex now $18.70 ea. or for 20-99 pcs @ $18.30 ea.
Currently: Silver spot ask price at $15.50/oz. ex: 2010 ASEs on Apmex now $18.49 ea. or for 20-99 pcs @ $18.09 ea.
I have been looking for some where concerning this so as to find out how to go about complaining to the US Mint. They started in the last half of 2009 with the new tubes. New design very loose fit. Now you can hear them when you ship and customers are complaining about the coins banging against each other in the tube. The mint really screwed up with these tubes. Anybody know how to contact the the right area of the Mint to complain or at least make them aware of it.
