I am 14 too. Started at age 8, and went to my first coin show somewhere around 9 or 10. Great thing about this hobby is that anyone can do it.
My understanding is that so called underage collectors are allowed in these parts with the blessing of their parents? That said, I welcome the younger folks. I love their spunk and enthusiasm. And above all, the stupidest question is the one that's never asked..........
12, the best thing u can do right now is order a Red Book. http://www.amazon.com/Guide-Book-Un...1486/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1296844507&sr=8-2 It has current values, tons of information about coins, and a guide on how to grade each coin. It was one of the first things i bought when i started my collection when i was 14 and has definitely saved by butt many times. I read my 2001 red book so many times i almost didnt need it. I bought a 2011 one 10 years later and now my brain is messed up lol i couldnt believe the price jump
Almost as bad as feeling the need to parent (or berate) some exuberant kid in a forum. Or, as bad as judging someone's character based on a five word (or eight if you take the acronym into account) statement. Or possibly as bad as making sweeping, overly-generalized statements about the future of society based on said statement. I agree with others. I'd rather have young people who are excited about something like coin collecting rather than no young people excited about it.
John Doe, will you please not post inappropriate acronyms on our forum? Thank you very much I also agree its good to have young people getting into the hobby. I am currently helping one of my coworker's sons get into it. I was 12 when I started and that was only 7 years ago so I remember it very well.
