Maybe, but think for a second guys. Are the dealers latching on to these issues? If they don't then you're all probably right. This issue will skyrocket. But, if they're buyin' in then your investment's goin' south...
I could be mistaken but I thought the mint was not supposed to re-sell sets that were returned for defective coins.
i received 25 set of 2007 clad proof set. all were defectives. but since the mint already declare sold out. and i did call them. only you can return but no replacement. because no more stock. finally i kept it.
2007? past experience? ALL 25 defective in the same order? QC clearly non-existent in this case. why keep defectives? were they errors? Should have returned them to have them destroyed, reduce the over all survival rate of those proofs. Get your money back and buy something else or on the secondary market when prices drop. Help reduce the number of defective survivors that will likely be worth less than perfect example proofs in the distant future.
Sort of like the Mint taking the new Lincoln Cents off the 'sold out' list then reversing that by starting to sell them again... bad, bad business practice to toy with collectors like that... Mint is biting the hands (some of the hands) that feed them.
The Mint is certainly a profitable outfit thanks to successful marketing campaigns aimed at collectors passion and their weaknesses to get these things as well as willingness to pay the premiums for them.
Unfortunately I think the mint is like the stock market and with all the products they will grow the collecting bubble to the point of collapse. On the positive side they have forced me to focus on a couple of core collections since I don't like most of the new stuff they are making anyway.
i just received my 5th set. got it off of ebay. after shipping it was cheaper then if i would have gotten it from the mint and all these coins are perfect as well:thumb:
