No i understand what Jello means out ot all the error coins that i posted most said they weren;t about 20 coins I posted just to see ,now what kind of odds are that . I know about ten of them were really errors so what jello is saying he makes a good point. Ba humbug ROCKDUDE you always are on the defensive sideof the spectrum road. Alien nation Jazec
We calibrated with the scale's calibration weight Checked the weight of a bu 1909 and it was 3.11. then we checked each coin in my roll 40 were 2.627 and 9 were 2.633 and the one that is posted was 2.411 that is the fact as I know it.
Something would appear to be amiss. Perhaps your calibration weight was, itself, improperly calibrated. It's highly unlikely that a single roll would produce ALL overweight and underweight cents. Since recent cents weigh 2.5 grams, your results suggest that your scale is generating values that are 0.13 grams more than the actual weights. But that makes your underweight cent more significant, since that means its actual weight is around 2.3 grams.
I think you have a thin parchment and that caused the copper to not adhere properly. Congrats I believe it's an Error is that the one from the end of the roll you got? Ice
Your statement makes no sense. There's no such numismatic term as "parchment" and the thinness of a planchet has no bearing on how well copper plating adheres to it.
Well I think it's a Thin plannchet i would think that;s possible a roll would produce different weight cents that theory don;t hold water Mike Alien JAZEC from the planet ZECTAS
I can't see why you are questioning what Jello has said. He used a calibrated scale to weigh a 1909 cent and it weighed 3.11 grams which is the correct weight, serving to further verify the correct calibration of the scale. Then he weighed the 50 Cents in a single roll finding 40 to weigh 2.627 grams each, 9 to weigh 2.633 grams each and 1 which weighed 2.411 grams. We know the standard for a modern zinc/copper Cent is 2.5 grams. Therefore Jello has 40 Cents that are ~0.13 grams heavy and 1 that is ~0.1 gram light. Why should that information be disputed? I haven't been able to find the weight tolerances for the modern cents but I don't think +/- 0.1 grams may be unusual or much out of spec.
Here's my problem. Forty coins were 2.627 grams and 9 weighed 2.633 grams. That level of precision -- down to the nearest 1/1000 of a gram -- can be obtained only by an analytical balance. And no group of 40 cents will have the same weight down to 1/1000 of a gram. It is simply impossible. Individual cents will and must vary by several hundredths of a gram. The level of precision and the level of uniformity shown in Jello's results is entirely unrealistic. So is an entire roll of cents out of specification.
Coin World page 52 Only the Poof 2009-S of 4 are going to be 95% copper 5% zinc & tin so Dutchman was right on circulation coin clad copper zinc. But I still stand by what my roll of coins weight was. I know the scale was set up right and we did every coin in my roll. the end!
cool a new 2009 thin planchet wow jello happy for you.what do you think of that mike THERE'S NOTHING TO IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE WHEN YOU SEEN THE UNIVERSE alien jazec
Things like this really lower your overall credibility. It may be fun for you but I am just going to pass up your post as they don't really have much to do with the subject. Be an adult and act like one. Ice
I am a kid What is crediblity mean Ice> I did relate to the subject I said he has a thin planchet ,and the statement i made was refereing to,about and individual that said it;s,was unrealistic or impossible to find different weights in a roll of cents So I said that about the universe ,because nothing has to be unrealistic or impossible in any way or form.Do you understand now ICE so it did relate to the subject you have to comprehend and absorb what i said before making a comment like that. There is no such thing as an thin parchment cent were did you get that terminology from stick to the subject ICE Alien JAZEC the unavoidable one
