    Jeff 50-D's ?

I've heard that tidbit a number of times here. And it's a great lesson in how hoarding can increase a price in the short run, but decrease in the long run. But there's an essential part missing from this story.

    And that is . . . .

Nobody here (to my knowledge) has yet has mentioned what the price was doing between 1950 and 1970! Does anybody know? Did it go up for 20 years (!!) and then go down? Or what?

Anybody have access to lots of 50's and 60's red books? Or, otherwise, does anybody know the answer to this?

Actually, I have seen this from many Ebay sellers for weeks now. I wanted 2009 Kennedys for my Danscos and many of the sellers of those included a P&D logcabin...

In case no one has noticed....in the last week the prices these have been going for have increased dramatically. From about $40-45 per set to about $60 or more per set.

I agree, the mintage of the 09 cent is not low and it is just taken some time for them to get into circulation. I think the economy has a lot to do with it also. All the banks that I have talk too are saying that they are not ordering any 09 coins because they have plenty of coins from people cashing them in.

As far as people hoarding them, that is nothing new when new designs come out, look at the westward journey nickels and particular the Peace Nickel or even the Delawear Quarter. When they first came out people would hoard them up and were paying 10 times face value for them, and now you can find them eveywhere.

Again this is nothing new, and if you look back in History of coinage I believe this also happen in 1909. You would thing that the Mint has this planned out. Hummm you thing.:eat:

Tell me about it, I have found 3 1909-VDB pennies so far this past year, yet my 1909 plain hole is still empty.

If I had to guess, I would say that these coins will probably follow in the footsteps of the 1950D jefferson. Maintain a mild premium and will always be available to be bought,(but rarely found in circulation).

    Knock on wood...
About 10 years ago, while searching through some rolls, I did get a 1909 plain in VG condition. So they are out there. It's still my oldest coin of any denomination I've found in rolls from a bank.

    12th edition redbook says:

My hardcover 12th edition redbook says 1950 is .90 in UNC, $10 in PF, '50D is 1.25 UNC, '51 is.25 UNC, $7 in PF, '51D is .50 UNC '51S is 1.25 UNC.... now just adjust for inflation....
